This 1953 film directed by Matt Farrell for the National Tool and Die Manufacturers Association looks at the importance of tool and die manufacturing for the functioning of American Industry at large. It begins with the contributions that American Industry has made to everyday life and how tools and die were used to manufacture these goods. This is followed by an overview of the apprentice system and some of the skills that toolmakers need to learn such as operation of machinery, meticulous measurement, and reading blueprints. This is followed by footage of the creation and operation of some tools and the development of cutting edge die for the accurate manufacturing of plastics. This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. After watching a television commercial, Papa Bear decides to take up gardening but has more than his share of problems. The little bears give him a bag of 'speedy-grow' in stead of weed-killer, and the weeds thrive and take over his garden. Worms are feasting on his tomato crop, and the anti-worm spray he uses engulfs him rather than the vines. Papa Bear, worn-out, in pain and bandaged, is in his easy-chair when the same commercial, that earlier had inspired him, comes on again, and the angry bear rips open the television set and throttles the announcer.

The feud between Little Roquefort and the cat gets increasingly intense with explosives and tanks.

The jungle animals and creatures have all come to the point where they are living together in peace and harmony, thanks to the efforts of the great Mighty Mouse. But the peace is broken when the buzzards attack a helpless baby hippo. The super hero is kept busy fighting off the attacks of the sneaky buzzards while also catering to the needs and whims of the hippo. Finally, after the attackers are vanquished, all the animal parents leave their babies with Mighty Mouse as their baby-sitter.

In this preliminary study for Study IV “Liberation” a man hauls his alter ego through various spaces. The scene is reminiscent of Luis Buñuel’s “An Andalusian Dog”, where the man drags along a piano, two priests, and two dead donkeys. Weiss was not happy with this first, more personal version. He gave up the attempt to re-edit it.

This film shows the Acehnese people‘s struggle against the Dutch through a fictional approach. Meutia is one of the fighters. But within their ranks, there are also traitors such as Commander Husin. Husin is in love with Kemala, but she chooses Djohan over him. To get rid of his competition, Husin sends Djohan to deliver a message to Commander Him in the mountains. Djohan is injured in the process and Meutia nurses him to recovery. Meutia then takes him to see Commander Him. Meanwhile, Husin manages to marry Kemala. As Kemala sympathizes with the struggle for independence, she opposes her husband, and is killed. Based on information that Kemala provides, Djohan hunts down and finally captures Husin.

Number 73020, a standard Class 5 locomotive, has been in traffic for sixteen days, and goes back to the sheds for cleaning inside and out and a detailed mechanical check-up. A team of men, each with his special job, takes over. Before they are reassembled, the parts are inspected; then steam raising begins again. After vacuum tests by the crew, coal is taken on, water topped up, and less than twenty-seven hours after entering the sheds 73020 is back on duty.

This unusual amateur documentary outlines the work of Catholic priests in the Brentwood and Romford area. It's laden with interesting period details, such as the travelling mission to further-flung villages, enabling isolated Catholics without motorcars to celebrate Mass. The film's tone, though pious, ranges from gentle humour (priest struggles with motorbike) to deadly earnest (sacraments administered to the sick and dying).

In 1950, Italy embarked on the road to post-war reconstruction, but it was still a country marked by structural deficiencies and a backward, predominantly agricultural economy. Especially in the south, farmers and farm laborers accounted for over 60 percent of the workforce, and there were millions of unemployed and poor people. In September 1951, a group of parliamentarians decided to promote an investigation to learn more about the social reality of the country and launched the “parliamentary inquiry into poverty and the means to combat it.” The research and investigation took place throughout the peninsula: the Alps, the Po Delta, the southern regions, the islands, and the poor neighborhoods of large cities such as Milan and Rome. The results, made public in July 1953, paint a picture of an Italy suffering from dramatic imbalance.

1953 War Documentary about Kamikaze Pilots

"Insects" is a 1953 short educational film documentary on insects. The film which was distributed by State of Georgia, Department of Education Film Libraries and produced by Encyclopædia Britannica Films has a close look at insects, including grasshoppers.

This is a simple cinematic dance experience performed by Al Maldenado at the beach in La Jolla, California, using the bold rock formations as settings.

London Transport's railways carry about two million passengers every day. To run the stations and the trains, to operate the signals and issue the tickets, to do all the many jobs on which the railways depend, it is necessary to have efficient, highly trained staff. This film shows the instruction of London Transport's railway staff at the Railway Training Centre at Lambeth. The final episode follows a man through his course until he passes out as a Tube motorman.
