Cinematic Era: 1948 Vintage

A collection of home movies filmed from 1948-1951 featuring the legendary entertainer Cab Calloway and his wife Nuffie in their home on Long Beach and on their travels across both of the Americas.

Bold animated drawings and a dramatic soundtrack provide background for narrators who argue that World War III is looming and, as such, world civilization is in danger. They contend that peace is our only alternative, an alternative we must all work towards.

Against his wishes, Leon Errol is forced to buy a sweepstakes ticket

Terry O'Rourke, an American operating a small airline in Canada, is having a tough time making a go of it; he has to cope with unfavorable weather conditions, a rocky terrain, and a large Americam company determined to buy him out at their low price. In addition, one of his primary employees is working against him. One of his airplanes is transporting a cargo of gold and the pilot arranges for the gold to be stolen. He planned to parachute to safety, letting the airplane be looted when it crashed, but a co-worker cuts his parachute cord and he is killed. O'Rourke, with the air of one of his best pilots, Kay Cameron, sets out to track down the culprits.

People are afraid of the usurer Chazaj and are convinced that he is the bearer of evil. One day Chazaj pays a visit to the poor artist Simon Jordán and asks him to paint his portrait. Simon agrees but as he progresses with the work his mind conjures up terrible thoughts and in the end he commits suicide. The portrait looks lifelike and Chazaj is content with the results. After Chazaj's death the picture changes hands and brings misfortune to all who own it. The last victim is the young painter Roman who buys Chazaj's portrait in a bazaar. He finds a treasure in the frame and begins to live well off it. The comfortable life suits him so well that he rejects his original artistic aims and becomes a painter of fashionable kitsch.

Khaled, a self-made university student, suffers from the treatment of his father, Abdel Aziz Bey, and the plots of his stepmother, Munira, and her ill-mannered sister, Fardous. However, he does not hesitate to strive for his future. Khaled stands against Rahmi Bey and opposes his resounding slogans and destructive opinions. No. 13 Baochan Hutong in Beiping was originally the residence of King Zheng of the Qing Dynasty, and became one of the top ten murderous mansions in Beiping due to the unexplained deaths of its occupants from time to time. A couple from Shanghai rented the house, and the old man on watch told them the story of the old house. When the Eight-Power Allied Forces invaded, King Zheng's father was dragged to his death by a foreigner's horse for not letting the foreigner occupy the mansion, and since then there have been strange happenings in the mansion. Zheng Wang's son, Weng, was not doing his job, and Zheng Wang could do nothing about it. On the night of the ancestor's memorial service, King Zheng died of spasms in his arms and legs. After the Republic of China, Weng was forced to sell his house, his mother hanged herself, and his sister fell into a brothel, where a warlord general bought her as a concubine, but abused her all sorts of ways.

A ruffian sends his assistant to force a peasant girl to marry him, but while he is bringing her to him, he falls in love with her.

The Kunlun swordsmen carries out a rescue mission to save the little boy who has been abducted by the evil monk. Eager to take revenge on the Kunlun Sect and carry on with his plot to cause chaos, the evil monk seeks help from his fellow brother who uses sorcery to shrink people.

Peter Korff isn't a famous actor yet, but he is young, handsome, adventurous – and once again hopelessly in love. The object of his affection is named Erika and works as a model at the fashion salon "Yvette." Although the pretty young woman claims to be just as in love with Peter as he is with her, she's always up for a little fling behind his back.

In this psychological thriller, an avaricious man covets his stepbrother's home. The greedy fellow knows that his stepbrother has a heart condition and so sets off a fatal attack by smashing a beloved violin. However, his actions do not come without a terrible price.

This post-World War II drama, (released to a world-wide audience on July 9, 1949), is definitively unique for the caliber of each of its contributing writers, who are clearly better-known for their cinematic talents in black and white . For instance, the film's Director Chano Urueta ( who became an acclaimed actor in his own right), actually co-wrote the script along with one of its principal actresses, namely Esther Fernandez, as well as adding in the literary abilities of a well-known movie-producer of the era named Luis Marique.

Donald Duck and Jose Carioca, both literally blue, stumble across the Cafe do Samba, whose proprietor is determined to cheer them up with samba music. After they get their color back, they land in a giant brandy snifter, where a live-action woman is playing the tune on an organ. She also drums and dances a bit. The only dialogue is the lyrics of the song, sung by women.

Pertti works as telegraph operator on a ship. The ship arrives in Helsinki and Pertti looks forward to meet his mother and the neighbor girl, who he is in love. But his plans change, when he steps into a restaurant with the first officer of the ship on the first ashore.

Little Flip-Flap, a seal, is unhappy in the confines of the swimming tank in a big-city zoo. He breaks out and heads for the North Pole, where he meets a pretty girl-seal. She is captured by seal-hunters and sent to the zoo. Flip-Flap decides to return to the zoo and is happy when he is reunited with his sweetheart.

Buzzy the Crow pretends to be a doctor checking on Sam the hypochondriac cat.

Hector Dumontier has had enough of his wife Noémie : she is always immersed in those detective stories he disapproves of. To teach her a lesson, Dumontier decides to simulate the burglary of their house, with the help of an alleged jewel thief masked by a hood. He creates many false leads and everybody in the house gets suspected, from Ernestine, the maid, to Cabassol, the chauffeur, to Rosine, the Dumontiers'daughter. The disorder is complete and the various police detectives in charge do not help much.

This Columbia All Star Comedy (production number 9427) finds Gus Shilling discovering that a cranky wife (Dorothy Granger) isn't the worst thing after shell-shocked veteran Dick Lane shows up. Gus invites him to a lamb-chop breakfast---not an appealing breakfast to begin with---and learns that the sound of a whistle sets bells ringing in Dick's head. Whistles, from one source or another, including Gus' wife who isn't all that thrilled about Dick coming to breakfast, start and Dick goes crazy. After a chase Gus is mistaken for the escaped insane man (Cy Shindell)from a local sanitarium and taken away by the doctors.

Florence (Florence Lake) has entered and won a radio contest sponsored by the company Edgar (Edgar Kennedy) works for, but the contest has a rule against employees or family members winning. Florence, determined to collect her prize, schemes to get Edgar fired.

Swedish film producer Lorens Marmstedt created Terrafilm with a group of young directors in mind, Hasse Ekman, Ingmar Bergman and Hampe Faustman. Terrafilm appeared as both the commercial and the artistic leader in Swedish film. 45 films was produced from 1938-1957. Some of the more attentive titles were "Ett Brott/A Crime)" (1940), "Flickan och Djävulen/The Girl and the Devil" (1944), "Musik i Mörker/Music in the Dark" (1948) and "Singoalla"(1949).

The revolutionary year of 1848 brought great hopes among the hitherto silent classes, awakening social and national hopes. The response also penetrated the remote countryside, even as far as the Podkrkonoše Mountains. The young shoemaker there began to take an interest in social and political events, and he also experienced disappointment in later developments.

A radio reporter for women's issues provokes in his broadcast with the suggestion that women should counter the lack of chic clothing by being energetic and imaginative. He receives numerous letters of protest from female listeners and then announces a report entitled "Elegance is on the Street".

Errol has been splurging on his hobby of collecting antiques and must hide the actual prices he has paid for them from his wife. In the meantime, his daughter has been secretly married and has yet to break the news to her father.

Much of Hunter's fame was built upon her resemblance to Marilyn Monroe; indeed, her Playboy pose was obviously inspired by Monroe's notorious 1949 nude photo session with Tom Kelley from which her own Playboy photo came. The similarity in look between Hunter and Monroe also came into play when a nude Hunter starred in a film short called Apple Knockers and Coke. For many years there have been those who have seen the film and have mistaken Hunter for Monroe.

A young woman who inherits her uncle's nightclub, invents a gangster husband in order to gain respect.

Three brothers make a vow on their father's deathbed to be devoted to one another. As they each grow up in their own ways, they struggle to retain their bond as adults.

At the end of the war, the old train driver Matys saves his beloved locomotive Líza from depth charges. However, the locomotive is damaged and he is injured. At a critical moment, he stands in for his son-in-law, also a train driver, and thus prevents a train accident. Despite this, he is sent into retirement. To show what the "iron old man" can do, he reconstructs Líza with a group of apprentices...
