The lost film about the peasant rebellion of the 18th century in Ukraine, led by Maksym Zalizniak and Ivan Honta. The history of the haydamak movement became a trigger for authors to have experiments in the field of film language: shooting against the background of black velvet, focus on the static character of the picture, the sculptural nature of composition mise-en-scène solutions, replacement of dramatic collisions with cinema engravings depicting the historical past.

The State supported the initiative of the Provincial Vicariate of Ucayali, of the Franciscan Order, to produce *The Conquest of the Jungle*, a feature film intended to showcase abroad—especially at the Seville Exposition—the progress of Franciscan teaching in the Peruvian Amazon region. The deputy for Ucayali, Navy Captain Abraham A. de Rivero, sponsored the film's production, along with the Apostolic Vicar of Ucayali, Monsignor Francisco Irasola, and the Very Reverend Father Buenaventura Uriarte, Provincial of the Discalced Friars. The project had the endorsement of the President of the Republic, Augusto B. Leguía.

The aim of this documentary – especially in the subtitles – is to promote the benefits of civilization. The buildings and roads, built by Africans, commanded by settlers. The agricultural facilities, the hospital. Then the camera lingers with a certain fascination on dances – including warriors – and topless women. This curious documentary concludes with two “visions of the future”: a Portuguese dance of white and black schoolchildren, and the graduation of Portuguese teenagers.
