They decide to flee from the father's vigilance, but at the train station a wounded beggar warns Lina about the grave mistake she is making. Álvaro bandages her wound with a handkerchief on which his initials are inscribed and Lina gratefully gives her her jewelry and in turn informs Álvaro of her decision not to continue with this adventure. The beggar woman is assaulted and murdered. Her corpse is found with Alvaro's handkerchief, who is accused of the crime. Although he is innocent, he keeps silent to protect Lina.

A silent amateur film with a runtime of 1 minute and 28 seconds (DCP from 9.5mm reversal, 16 fps), presented without intertitles. Preserved by Fondazione Home Movies – Archivio Nazionale del Film di Famiglia, Bologna, the film documents a game of tug-of-war on the beach at Lavagna during the summer of 1925. A group of young participants, dressed in bathing suits, engage in the activity while a dog observes from the sidelines. The footage is notable for its stable tripod-based composition and the use of horizontal camera movement to follow the action. At age 16, Lavello demonstrates early technical proficiency and an interest in capturing spontaneous social interaction. As noted by Michele Manzolini in the 2025 Pordenone Silent Film Festival catalogue, the film contributes to a broader visual record of leisure and informal play within early amateur cinema.

Clarinda is the adopted daughter of Alberto da Silva, an industrialist facing a crisis due to excess inventory. Benedito Silveira, a representative of a European firm interested in Alberto's products, flirted with Clarinda, despite being relatively old. If Clarinda's heart belonged to him, the problem of the accumulated inventory would be solved. However, Clarinda either didn't want to, or couldn't understand, Benedito's romantic intentions. She spent her time outings with Laura, a highly experienced aviator and her childhood friend. The factory's growing crisis forced the shareholders to meet frequently. Employee layoffs were inevitable. Antonio Martins was a young shareholder who spent most of his time in clubs and cabarets. Introduced to Clarinda, he began to court her, eventually declaring his love. But Clarinda thought of no other affection than that of her adoptive father.

A defining cultural phenomenon of the Roaring Twenties, the Charleston gained widespread popularity after its appearance in October 1923 in the African American Broadway revue Runnin’ Wild. Newsreels captured the dance’s irresistible rise over the course of the decade. Fox News, Vol. 6, Release 74, issued on 13 June 1925, featured Charleston footage filmed at the Fox studio in New York and at Starlight Park, a prominent amusement park in the Bronx. In the studio footage the Charleston was demonstrated by a group of dancers sent by none other than Texas Guinan, the famed queen of New York speakeasies – among them was a very young Ruby Keeler, who, just a few years later, would marry Al Jolson and go on to become a successful actress. The surviving set of outtakes showcases a performance by an unidentified dancer embodying the Charleston’s spirit of freedom, fun, and youthful rebellion that so captivated audiences of the era.

The story of a "little," well-behaved girl who plunges into the "sinful" big city and risks getting lost there – told with a lighthearted, comedic, and sentimental touch. The nameless girl is persuaded by an experienced friend to earn her own money as a dancer in a bar, just like her. The "little one's" father mustn't find out, as he wants his daughter to lead a respectable, bourgeois life. Therefore, his daughter pretends to work night shifts as a telephone operator and conceals her dancing from him. Unlike her carefree, "experienced" friend, however, the "little one" is careful not to jeopardize her reputation through morally questionable behavior.

There is very little information available online on this little gem, the first 'feature-length' film shot exclusively in Iceland by an Icelandic director, the pioneer Loftur Guðmundsson. Director and crew travelled all around the country with the ambitious goal of documenting all the aspects of the local life at the time. Fishing plays an important role (being then, by far, the number one national industry); one can also witness the humble beginnings of 'city-life' in the capital, one of the first (or was it the very first?) cars driving in Iceland, beautiful pastoral shots of farm-lands, ladies posing in the national costume, as well as fighters indulging in the national sport, 'glyma'. The 21st century traveller will be able to recognize a number of landmarks. The images are often naive, genuine, and captivating. In my opinion one of the most valuable Icelandic films. --Ewolve
