Eddie and his pal, after repeatedly standing off the landlady, find the door of their room barricaded and escape cut off. Eddie endeavors to make his escape across a wire to a telegraph pole, but the wire breaks and he swings back into the room, breaking the barricade from the door. They make their getaway and Eddie sneaks into the garage and gets his cab, as his pal is fired for being late. The latter appeals to a rival company for a job promising to take all the business from his late pal. It is then a chase between them for customers with all sorts of devices resorted to to secure business.

Still arguing, both men volunteer for a reconiscience raid into enemy lines, where a grenade goes off near Alan and appears to kill him. Gerald and Kitty mourn Alan's death. After the war ends, Gerald and Kitty become engaged to be married.

During the factory tour, they are shown not only the repair workshops of the elevated railway, but also how electricity for railway operations was generated in the power station at that time. A family outing to the countryside is planned for the next day. Max Herbst's daughter, Bubikopf, is also part of the group. They take the Walddörferbahn to Volksdorf, then continue with three-axle Büssing buses and the tram. The eventful day ends with a trip on an Alster steamboat. However, Bubikopf and Hein Puttfarcken have eyes only for each other.

Things take a turn for the worse when his spending on her gets to the point where it's placing the firm dangerously close to bankruptcy. Something has to be done.

Sergeant McKenna of the Northwest Mounted Police is detailed to go after him, and Constable Fitzgerald, who saw Belleau on the night of the murder, is struck by the resemblance between Belleau and McKenna. Believing them to be the same man, Fitzgerald confides his suspicions to the chief and is detailed to pursue McKenna.

Opening the film on death row where the handsome youth awaits the chair, a stirring test of the legal system evolves after two elite types conspire to expose its inadequacies. Elite, jaded society lawyer Gordon Harrington fabricates a murder, implicating an entirely "hired" fall-guy, one Dan O'Connor, while the bored playboy-type hides away on a yacht until the points are proven and the legal system has been disgraced. Naturally, something goes wrong, the playboy really turns up murdered, and O'Connor is now the accused, imprisoned murderer scheduled to be hanged.
