In one corner of the room, a cinematographic apparatus had been installed, graciously loaned by the Lima Theater and Cinema Company, and at the back a screen, on which was projected the beautiful and detailed film that Mr. Larco had impressed some years ago and which reproduces in all its aspects the development of agricultural work on the great Chiclín estate and very interesting facets of social life in the town adjacent to the estate, especially drawing attention to the scenes of the celebration of the national holidays in a brilliant manner on the estate.

Formosa depicts the landscapes, architecture, customs, culture, agriculture, natural scenery, Indigenous peoples, and colonial traces of Taiwan during the period of Japanese rule. It also reflects how the world at that time perceived and imagined Taiwan. This film is the earliest known surviving motion picture shot in and about Taiwan. This introductory documentary was donated as a duplicate print by the Netherlands Filmmuseum (now Eye Filmmuseum) in 1991. According to the museum’s records, the nitrate print dates to approximately 1922. However, based on the research of scholar Lee Daw-ming, the film may have been shot as early as 1917 by Herford T. Cowling. The exact date when the original positive film was produced and its subsequent whereabouts remain unknown. Formosa is preserved and presented by the Taiwan Film & Audiovisual Institute in 2025.

Job Abramonoff, the leader of a Jewish community in Russia, is arrested for the ritual murder of Sonja Mulnikow, the little sister of Sascha, a gentile and the childhood friend of Job's daughter Manya. Sascha, who is sympathetic to the plight of the Jews, is led to point the accusing finger at Job against his better judgment. He reads a book, "The Philosophy of Race Prejudice," which tells how Maneth, the Egyptian high priest, tried to dupe Alexander the Great into believing that his young friend Cassander was the victim of such a sacrifice by the Jews. Convinced of his error, Sascha tries to save the Abramonoff family and stop the pogrom that began when Job was arrested. Sonja is revealed to be alive and well, but it is too late: the mob has broken into the prison and stoned Job to death. Horror-stricken, Sascha confesses to Manya that he was prejudiced and asks forgiveness.

The story is that of Heza Gobbler and his wife, Ima Gobbler. Both were of normal size in their more youthful days, but a few years after they have “settled down” the extra fat has settled down on them so heavily that when they receive an invitation to a banquet neither can get Into the “glad rags” which have laid unused in their trunks for several years. When Mrs. Eaton Growthin, who was bridesmaid at their wedding, calls, Mrs. Ima Gobbler is moved to envy by her slender, graceful figure. Mrs. Gobbler is introduced to a specialist by her more slender friend, and in a few minutes receives his brief outline of the simple home method which she is to follow to lose weight. She follows the easy method for five months, and when she returns to the specialist’s office, his scales show that she has lost forty pounds. An entertaining story and clever comedy have been combined In "How to Grow' Thin” with a vital lesson to the great number of people who have a tendency to “grow fat.”
