Cinematic Era: 1915 Vintage

A count shows up in Snakeville to deliver a letter telling matronly Margaret Joslin that she has inherited a lot of money, so of course he wants to romance and marry her.

The Hon. Archibald Graham is expelled from college and his indignant father sends him to a little English village to study under the Rev. Harry Pemberton. Misunderstood by his father, he has grown up somewhat reckless and dissipated. All this is changed under the tutelage of the minister and he enters into the spirit of his studies with zeal.

Fernande marries a man and schemes to get his wealth when his expected death occurs. But he dies before he can change his will. She next tries to kill the son who inherits, but he outfoxes her.

Dolly’s father disapproves of her boyfriend Ben, thinking he is only interested in athletics and not being able to provide for his daughter. Ben heads to the seashore to find work. Dolly convinces her father he isn’t feeling well and needs to get away to the beach. Once there she’s reunited with Ben much to her father’s chagrin but when he thinks Dolly is drowning and Ben saves her, he softens towards the lad.

Gloom overcasts the palace of Count Selim Nalagaski, governor general of Morovenia, Turkey. All efforts to make the count's elder daughter, the Princess Kalora, fat, synonymous with beauty in that country, have failed. Popova, the Princess's tutor, devises a terrible revenge because the count called him a Christian dog. He feeds the princess pickles to keep her thin.

The girl, on guard at the mountain defile, sees a strange man with all the accouterments of a painter. She hails him and he explains he is a landscape artist. Tom, coming along a moment later, also challenges him and is reassured of the stranger's calling when the stranger paints his picture. As the days go by, the painter and the girl meet frequently and Tom's attentions to the girl begin to be unwelcome, Tom is consumed with jealousy, but he likes the painter and he is a good loser. Then comes the denouement. The moonshiners learn that the painter is a revenue agent. Tom is about to kill him, but the girl buys his life at the price of her happiness. She tells Tom she will marry him if the spy goes free.

After a spectacular college football career, John Harkless leaves the university to pursue a place in Indiana politics. He buys the failing Plattville Herald and, using the newspaper to expose various illegal activities, sets out to rid the county of all mobsters and corrupt officials.

The girl rejects her sweetheart, telling him that she loves him but prefers a career. She takes up nursing, by which she hopes sometime to become famous. The girl is called to the home of a famous singer, who has broken down. In her delirium the singer calls for the sweetheart of her girlhood. She tells of the disappointment in life despite her fame, and that she longs for a home and the simple things of life, with love.

The Outlaw, preparing to rob the stage, receives a letter from his wife, telling him to lead a good life for the sake of her and his baby, and informing him that he may expect them any time. Filled by remorse, he refuses to accompany his companions on their hold-up. As he rides away, he sees a sign offering clemency to the unknown robber if he will give up his gun. He seeks out the sheriff, surrenders the gun and goes on his way. But the stage is held up and the pursuing posse arrests him. Rendered desperate, he makes his escape and prepares to resume his criminal career. But the posse captures the real bandit.

Lonesome Luke and his accessory, Moke Morpheus, are discovered in bellhop uniform, blissfully dozing on a bench in the lobby of the Bughouse Hotel. Comes a guest, and the desk clerk rings a bellhop. But, in the words of Aristotle, or Ted or someone, "you can ring and you can ring, but the house is boarded up."

Angered by his son Jack's wild behavior, Mr. Bennett sends him to college on a limited allowance. Jack is engaged to Irma Brentwood, the daughter of his father's partner, however, Irma prefers upper classman Bruce Howard. At Jack's boardinghouse, Jack is kind to orphan Daisy Woods, the much-abused maid, who falls in love with him. After a football victory, Jack's fraternity goes to a burlesque theater, but finds that Howard's fraternity is already there. Following a rough house, Jack's fraternity kidnaps the showgirls for a party.

In the mountains and hills of Kentucky, a feud has raged for many years between the McTriggers and the Sampsons. In vain did the authorities intervene, threaten arrests and endeavor to patch up the mimic war; all these efforts were of no avail.

Saved from a terrible shipwreck by Stephan Royston, son of a farmer. Nana, orphaned by the catastrophe, is adopted by the family and the two sons, Stephan and Godfrey, fall in love with her. Stephan's artistic tendency for painting, etc., is classed as foolishness by his stern father, while Godfrey, realizing that the girl favors his brother, determines to get rid of him.

Bowery hooligan Chimmie is saved from false arrest by socialite dogooder Fanny. She takes in him, his brother and mother as servants. His brother schemes to steal the good lady's silver.

A British army officer refuses to avenge the death of a general who was murdered years earlier. He is awarded three feathers by his officers. When his fiancée fails to defend his stance, he plucks a feather from her fan. He proves his courage by rescuing his comrades in dangerous and life-threatening situations. Later he returns each feather as proof of his redemption and courage.

When Josiah Whitcomb's son gets into trouble with bad companions in New York City, Josiah leaves the farm and goes into the city to find the boy. There he finds that his country ways are not at all respected in the sophisticated city.

The Thanhouser Company's two-reel adaptation of Oscar Wilde's eponymous novel. “The plot is unusual, and even though none of the familiar epigrams of the author find their way into the subtitles there is an artistic flavor to the production. Dorian's picture shows evidence in the passing years of his selfish, dissipated life, though his own countenance remains unchanged. Harris Gordon handles the leading role effectively, and Helen Fulton was pleasing as the ill-fated young actress who won Dorian's heart." - The Moving Picture World, July 31, 1915.

Four bad men have kidnapped Fatty's girlfriend and plan to kill her. Fatty's dog knows where she is, but Fatty doesn't and he was crying. However the dog came back to get Fatty, and they and the Keystone Cops went to rescue her.

When her husband dies and leaves her penniless, Mrs. Lawrence Evringham moves in with her wealthy but grim father-in-law and schemes to marry Eloise, her daughter, to the rich Dr. Ballard.

Irrepressible Helen Rhinelander, the daughter of a railroad president. A dastardly villain, Segrue, however, desires not only Helen but also the plans for a new railroad. Happily, Helen's childhood sweetheart, Paul Storm, now an engineer, is right there to protect the damsel-in-distress through the serial's 15 exciting chapters.

The artist sits in his studio painting a picture. The girl comes in and greets him affectionately. Then she leaves and joins some friends who are selling tags for a charity organization. They all go to a cabaret with a man friend. The artist, accompanied by a chum, goes into the place and sees the girl. He reproaches her and she returns his ring. He goes into the country to paint. While there he meets the other girl, a sweet, unspoiled child of nature. He paints her picture and she falls in love with him. A tree which she and her father are cutting falls on the artist. They bring him to their cabin and the doctor says there is little hope for his recovery. The artist raves about the girl and the other girl determines to bring her to save his life.

The Hungry Actors is a 1915 Comedy short.

The story of a ruddy-cheeked rural postman who dabbles in poetry-writing on the side. He utilizes his hobby to spread a bit of sunshine throughout the village, at one point reuniting a long-estranged family.

At a dance given by Earl Dexter, his wife, for the gratification of a whim, wears a beautiful pearl necklace recently purchased by Viscount Acheson. Craig Dare, who is a gentleman thief, makes love to Earl Dexter's wife, and at the same time succeeds in stealing from her the pearl necklace and handing it out of the window of the house to Tony Oscaros, a chauffeur, who is none other than Dexter, who is leading a dual life.

Dismissed from the church because of his seemingly undue intimacy with the schoolteacher, the young minister becomes an evangelist and, after an incident in which he thrashes the drunken sheriff, is appointed sheriff by the mayor. In the girl's home he sees a picture of her father, whom he recognizes as identical with that on a circular calling for the arrest of Idaho Mac, a notorious desperado. He promises the girl that he will never use his gun against her father, but sends his deputy, the ex-sheriff, to apprehend Idaho Mac at the border. The bandit, badly wounded by the deputy's bullets, reaches his daughter's house, and she thinks the sheriff false to his word.

As the Civil War begins Ned Burton leaves his Southern love Agatha Warren and joins the Union army. He is later protected and saved from death by Agatha in spite of her loyalty to the South.

In early 19th century England, ambitious and ruthless orphan Rebecca Sharp advances from the position of governess to the heights of British society.

Perpetua is a rich little orphan with a kind but absent-minded dreamer of a guardian, Thaddeus, who is very much older than herself. Perpetua wants to live in Thaddeus's house but instead is sent to her eccentric animal loving Aunt's, Miss Majerdie. Unhappy Perpetua runs away to Thaddeus’s. He endures her for a time and finally ships her back to his Aunt Majerdie's. Pursued by several suitors whose ardor cools when the rumor goes round that she is penniless. Her wealth having intimidated him before Thaddeus steps in now and declares his love for her.

After Count John Karpathy, belovedly known as the Nabob, falls ill while entertaining the peasants of his estate, his dissolute nephew and sole heir, Count Bela, comes home from Paris to acquire his inheritance. The Nabob recovers and, after hearing Bela's plan to squander the money, resolves not to give Bela anything while he lives.

Ambrose's nasty temper gets him in trouble when he accidentally puts his boss's attractive daughter in danger.

The hero's mother is desperately ill and the young fellow, while going afoot for a doctor, stops a mail carrier and forces him- at the point of the pistol- to give up his horse.

An old woman in Frederick, Maryland during the U.S. Civil War displays her American flag in defiance of the armies of Confederate general Thomas J. Jackson. Based on the folk tale that grew from the poem by John Greenleaf Whittier.

La Pampa, Argentina. Don Genaro Gran hires gaucho Juan to capture horses and tame them. In his quest, Juan rescues a girl in trouble whose beauty unleashes Don Genaro's worst impulses.

This was Theda Bara's third starring film, and the first which she carried all on her own, with no other name actors in the cast. Based on the Alexander Dumas story, The Clemenceau Case involves Iza, a vampire-wife (Bara), whose wicked ways scandalize her husband, Pierre (William E. Shay).

Young Martha Redmond, a poor girl from a small town, leaves to find a singing career in New York City. She doesn't find success as a singer, but finds a job as a model for a prominent artist, and soon becomes his mistress. When her lover throws her over to marry the daughter of a wealthy man, she becomes a "fallen women", a plaything for wealthy playboys. She meets Barrett, a millionaire's son, and begins to wonder if she might have a future with him, but it seems like he'll turn out to be just like "all the others".

Mr. and Mrs. Jones and their six children start out for a picnic in the woods with youngest son Jimmie’s beloved Great Dane pup along. The animal proves to be a white elephant as soon as they try to board a trolley car, and they must walk to the picnic grounds. That’s only the beginning of their troubles with Mr. Jones trying everything to get rid of the pup, but when they get home from their "quiet little picnic," Mr. Pup is quietly sitting on the doorstep, and Jones disgustedly gives up.

Broncho Billy, engaged to the girl, becomes jealous of a newcomer, and in remorse, gets intoxicated. He takes hack the girl's ring and frightens the tenderfoot out of a general store. Mounting his horse he pursues his frightened rival and, after many miles of galloping, overtakes him and brings him back to town, where he flings him in the girl's arms, saying, "Here's your tender foot. Try and make a man of him." Two years later, her husband dead, the wife is at the point of death, half-starved and with a small child to care for.

A winning lottery ticket and the theft of half of it leads to both joy and a lot of trouble for former coworkers Abe and Kitty as well as Abe’s daughter Minnie and her true love David Moss.

Mr. and Mrs. Gussle get up to some hijinks in this Keystone comedy.

Finding that his attentions to Nellie are undesirable in the eyes of Jenkins, her father. Billy tries to elope with the girl, but the young people's plans are overheard by the old gentleman, who disguises himself in Nellie's cloak and veil and attends the meeting place himself. Father beats Billy up and chases him away from the place after ordering him never to come back. Billy conceives a brilliant idea. With his handkerchief over his face, bandit-fashion, he sneaks up to the Jenkins home that evening and climbs in a convenient window...

A notorious gambler and card cheat, George Forrester, rules a little western town with an iron hand. The men of the town plot to catch him cheating and do, but his men save him from danger. In the same town lives Gerald Austen, or Aitkens, who had left his tyrannical father in the east and made good in the west.

Count Von Herbeck, the chancellor to the Grand Duke of Ehrenstein, is married but keeps the fact secret on account of his high ambitions. His wife, dying, writes him a letter urging him to make their little child a great lady. A lost film.

On the advice of his friend Pendleton, Ashton Kirk, a scholar and amateur detective, pays a visit to a house whose occupants, Charles Cramp and his sister Grace, complain of strange happenings involving Mexicans. Discussions with Ashton's agent in Mexico reveal that Cramp's father was once an engraver, who, in desperate need of cash, had agreed to supply Alva, a notorious thief, with forged currency plates. After a change of heart, Cramp refused to deliver the plates to Alva, and now Cramp's aunt, Miss Hohenlo, has come to her brother's home to find them herself. The clever Ashton realizes that the Mexicans are cohorts of Alva's and eventually uncovers an elaborate signalling and tunnel system used by Miss Hohenlo and Alva to locate the missing plates. Deciphering a message announcing the time and place of the arrival of the Mexicans, Ashton and his aides hide themselves in the house cellar, capture the thieves and destroy the plates.

Broncho Billy becomes enraged when a stranger comes to town and wins the affections of his sweetheart. On the night of the wedding Broncho Billy "shoots up" the church, wounding the bridegroom. He then escapes across the border, after leaving a note to his rival telling him he will finish the job on Christmas night.

Mr. Dingy engages Sweedie as their cook. She insists upon bringing her dog "Skinny" and her parrot along. Mr. Dingy dislikes dogs, but rather than lose Sweedie he consents.

As baby-faced chorine "Pat" O'Brien, the star protects her virtue against various and sundry stage-door Johnnies and sugar daddies. Implicated in a crime, Pat is pursued by detective Danny Mallory, who of course eventually falls in love with her and seeks to prove her innocence.

The husband sits by the fire musing over his married life and what might have been. He gets up and goes to the window to look out into the night. Across the yard in his neighbors' house, he sees two children being put to bed by their parents. The wife neglects her married life for social affairs. The husband sees her bidding an affectionate good night to a man who is in love with her. When she comes in he suggests that they be divorced, saying that their union has been without issue. He shows her the happy family. A poor woman leaves her baby on the doorstep of the home.

It all starts when the actress-wife gives a midnight party to her former associates and Bill and Mr. Jowlish try to horn in on the revelry...

Feathered friends prepare to meet their fate in this seasonal newsreel outing to a Norfolk turkey farm.

Before his niece and ward, Dosia Dale, comes of age, her uncle, who has spent her entire fortune, must think of a way to account for his actions. He proposes marriage, and when Dosia indignantly refuses him, he conspires with his evil friend, Dr. Protheroe, to do away with her. Declaring Dosia insane, the two men lock her up in the doctor's insane asylum, but she manages to drop a note from the window. Her plea for help is found by a reporter named Ford, who feigns insanity in order to gain admittance to the asylum. Dr. Protheroe becomes suspicious of Ford and locks him up with Dosia, whereupon Ford, knowing that his friend Cuthbert will notify the police if he and Dosia do not emerge safely by twelve, barricades the door and waits. In a furious battle with the police and the militia, Dosia's uncle and Dr. Protheroe are killed and the house set ablaze, but Ford and Dosia escape, leaping from the roof into a fire net below. All danger passed, Ford and Dosia become engaged.

A desperate bandit has escaped and finding no one about Broncho's cabin, takes refuge in the attic.

Crooked banker Peter V. Wilkinson intentionally drives his own company into bankruptcy and puts the bank's deposits into a secret account he has set up using his daughter Leslie's name. A series of events occurs in which Leslie finds out what her father has done and sets out to get him to return all the money he has stolen.

A flustered father seeks a cook for his kitchen, his daughter seeks to elope and a pair of crooks seek to get some loot. Add the Keystone Cops and stir vigorously.

A working knowledge of Morse code and the foresight to pick a train driver for a sweetheart come in handy in this ‘race to the rescue’ thriller. When the wealthy Mr Harvey has to go away on a train journey, a couple of sharp-eyed crooks take the opportunity to burgle his home. Only the live-in maid stands between them and Harvey’s safe. Can our plucky heroine save the day?

An innkeeper in sheer despair murders a passing by musician and steals his money in order to buy medicine for his dying wife. Eventually, he falls into an endless turmoil of guilt and madness.
