Cinematic Era: 1913 Vintage

A film aspirant must cycle, juggle and wrestle.

A young Englishman leaves his actress girlfriend to seek an experience in Australia. He works as a jackeroo on a property and falls in love with the daughter of a wealthy squatter. They are happy until the actress arrives and joins forces with an evil overseer.

There are two families concerned in this film: Dr. Tilford, Mrs. Tilford, and their little daughter, who is blind; Tony Rizzo, a worthless scow captain, his patient wife and their delicate infant.

This atmospheric silent film from 1913 shows scenes of Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and Flamborough Head in Yorkshire at the beginning of the 20th century.

The story deals with the love affairs of Lovesicko the Monk, and his adventures with the ladies of his choice have been pronounced by all: "The funniest picture ever devised." The film is full of action and the situations that cause spontaneous outbursts of laughter.

Jack Stevens informs the couple Philippe and Maud Perkins, who are celebrating their fiftieth anniversary, that he is too ill to celebrate and reminisce with them. In response to his letter, the couple decides that they will conjure up memories themselves: how they met in their early childhood, and how Jack Stevens got in timid Phillipe’s way. Or how Phillipe argued with boys who were throwing snowballs, because he wanted to defend Maud, which meant that he arrived late when visiting his antisocial mother. Or how Maud invited him to her birthday, or how Phillipe worked as a newsboy for J.Metz and used his wages to buy chocolates for Maud. Or how Jack gave the chocolates to Maud, and got into a fight with Phillipe, and finally how Maud and Philippe shared the chocolates, and kissed for the first time.

A travelogue of Turkey

The pheasant's summer holiday draws to a close as shooting season begins on this Norfolk game reserve. Pheasant season gets off with a bang - followed by many more - as the landed folk of Norfolk take aim. For pheasants the red ring on the calendar is 1 October each year; few creatures fear the end of the summer months more than game birds bred to be blasted, but at least these poor creatures got to appear in the newsreels.

The pictures show a thin stream of water rising in the air and supporting a hollow ball, made of glass or thin celluloid. We see such balls dancing on a jet of water in the ordinary shooting gallery quite frequently

After leaving the town of Margate, we are taken upon a trip along the coast, visiting Ramsgate Harbor and its splendid beach crowded with pleasure seekers, and then re-embarking, past the famous,. Dover Cliffs which are still such a terror to mariners.

Marcel Perez is, as you might guess from the title of this movie, a reporter. He's been assigned a new story: a general is in town to review the troops. Get an interview! The general does not wish to give an interview, so Perez has to resort to subterfuge. Good thing he's a comic and can raid the studio's wardrobe department for disguises.

When "Snookums" discovered this break in the pipe and the splashing water, he thought it was great fun to sit there and let the water spray over his nice clean clothes.

Rastus Johnson, a happy-go-lucky coon, after eating a large meal, lies down on the dock to take a nap. While he is slumbering three roughs happen along and see him, and knowing a sea captain who is in need of men to fill out his crew, they seize Rastus and shanghai him.

Alexandra Rose Day is a charity fundraising event, inaugurated in 1912 on the 50th anniversary of the arrival in England of Alexandra of Denmark for her marriage to the future King Edward VII. This charming film follows a cheerful band of women in Peckham, London, as they sell artificial roses to raise funds for local hospitals.

“You’ll see, this fire extinguisher is efficient and simple to use” the seller seems to boast to his customer. From behind his desk Fricot doesn’t miss a word of this conversation and once alone, steals the intriguing object. The rascal then goes on the hunt for the slightest bit of smoke to test the appliance in his own way. On his comical journey, Fricot ends up with a lot of casualties: from the pipe smoker to the cobbler’s workshop via the street lamp lighter and the cook, no household escapes being untimely hosed down by the incorrigible practical joker.

This particular film uses real film footage to show a march by women demanding the right to vote. This coincided with the inauguration of Woodrow Wilson and some of the marchers walked all the way from Newark, New Jersey to Washington, DC.
