เรื่องราวของชายหญิงชราคู่หนึ่งที่อาศัยอยู่ในชนบท ตัดสินใจเดินทางเข้าสู่โตเกียวเพื่อเยี่ยมลูกเเละหลาน แต่ต้องพบกับความผิดหวังเมื่อลูกๆ ต่างต้องทำงานจนไม่มีเวลาให้กับพ่อเเม่ของตน ยิ่งไปกว่านั้นคนที่มาคอยดูแลกลับกลายเป็นลูกสะใภ้ซึ่งสูญเสียสามีไปในสงคราม

In a poor district of Edo lives a young samurai named Soza. He has been sent by his clan to avenge the death of his father. He isn't an accomplished swordsman however, and he prefers sharing the life of the residents, teaching the kids how to write etc. When he finally finds the man he is looking for, he will have to decide whether he follows the way of the samurai or chooses peace and reconciliation.

Widower Shuhei Hirayama's caretaker is his 24-year-old daughter, Michiko. Gradually, he comes to realize that Michiko should not be obliged to look after him for the rest of his life, so he arranges a marriage for her.

ยามสายฝนโปรยปราย เป็นเรื่องราวของ ทาคาโอะ อากิซุกิ หนุ่มม.ปลาย ที่โดดเรียนในวันฝนตกเข้าไปเดินในสวนสาธารณะย่านชินจุกุ และบังเอิญไปพบกับหญิงสาวคนหนึ่งมานั่งกระดกเบียร์กินกับช๊อกโกแลต หลังจากนั้นทั้งสองคนก็มาพบกันทุกครั้งในวันฝนตกที่สวนแห่งนี้ เริ่มมีการสานสัมพันธ์ทำความรู้จักแลกเปลี่ยนความคิดกัน ไม่ใช่เฉพาะเรื่องความรัก แต่อนิเมะเรื่องนี้ยังสะท้อนความเป็นสังคมญี่ปุ่น ความสัมพันธ์ของคนในสังคม การดำเนินชีวิตของคนในเมืองใหญ่อย่างโตเกียวอีกด้วย
