Discoveries from Peru World Cinema

Seeking oblivion incorporated optical sound (sound on film) into Peruvian narrative cinema in the Movietone system, which was a patent of the Western Electric company.

A Bet with Satan is the second film by César Miró that follows the drawing-room comedy formula.

The great Aprista assembly of November 12, 1933, in the Plaza de Acho. Filmed by Víctor D. León and Luis Ugarte (son). Film with synchronized sound that was confiscated by the Executive Branch, canceling its premiere originally scheduled for December 23, 1933.

Neither the press nor the surviving documentation describes the plot of this film, of which no copy exists. It is known, however, that it was a film that developed a tenuous storyline presented with the aim of alerting families about the dangers caused by venereal diseases. Most of the footage consisted of documentary scenes. “It was filmed in Lima hospitals and was undoubtedly the most daring of its time for presenting real scenes...”
