By following the battles of five different people, all battling different invasive species in their own local environments, we get to know them, the unwelcome species, and the landscape that they want to protect from uncontrolled evolution. Nature is an open battlefield, and these people know it. They will do whatever it takes to protect the landscape from the intruders. This film is a documentation of different hunts for different invasive species, a study of what it means to be invasive, and a modern perspective on nature in the Anthropocene era.

You follow the Youth Red Cross, where the young people learn how to patch the injured together. Then you visit some of the kindergartens and homes where the Red Cross has trained nurses to take care of children. The Red Cross also runs a folk health center at Hald, where the regular population, for a small fee, are treated for diseases that require careful medical care. In addition, the Red Cross also helps to take care of the Allied refugees, just as they attend large numbers of large-scale events where Samaritans are needed. In bombed-out Poland, there is a strong need for the Red Cross, which responds by sending car convoys, ships and planes away to help.

There’s a huge problem. The wristwatch that David’s company launches in a few days has a mistake. Privilege is also a workplace where young employees have clear roles in the machinery. The dancers’ bodies are transformed into scenographic objects, which melt together in a gigantic choreography that includes cranes and a giant inflatable shark. ‘Industries of Freedom’ also looks at nightlife from the inside, with the collective out-of-body experience taking on a transformative and ecstatic aspect – like a take on the great common rituals of our times.

Homage to Airwaytakes its starting point in a 1920s photograph depicting the dog Airway, who was part pet, part lab animal to two anaesthesiologists. Their tests on Airway led to the development of a device which serves to open the patient’s airways. The invention became known as Guedel’s Airway, named after both the doctor and dog involved.

Suggestion of Least Resistance is based on archive materials which depict The July Revolt of 1927 (Der Brand des Wiener Justizpalastes), a monumental episode still acutely relevant. The animation film is a rhythmic, poetic surge, comparing us, our lives, and our very humanness to burning paper in the breeze. Images of sheets of paper flying through the broken windows of the burning palace are juxtaposed with images of the crowds as they convene and disperse. The music charges these powerful images with its own aliveness and colour.
