The oldest mummies in the world are from Chile. So are some of the sickest waves. In this follow-up to Absolute Mexico, director Josh Pomer trains his eye on surfing the Chilean coast. Along for the ride are some of the best surfers in the world. The crew scores a perfect reef that breaks in both directions. Joel Parkinson steals the show with his standup no grab backside tubes. Taylor Knox puts on a display of raw power through his use of rail turns. Cory Lopez shines in the ease of backdooring the wave. Aqua Luna has an all-star cast of interviews that brings us the unique perspective of the surfers featured. Cory Lopez, Bobby Martinez and Pancho Sullivan explain the razor sharp reef and the history of surfing in Chile. Then the all-star crew heads to a wave know as The Fish Factory, where the wave doubles up and spits and is named for its distinct smell.

How does progress in a city influence the life of its inhabitants? Panama is one of the fastest-growing economies in Latin America, as reflected primarily in the various construction mega-projects that have been adorning the capital of this small country. Many in this city brag about the pace of development that is taking place, but to what point can we speak of development? The documentary seeks to assess this development in terms of the improvement or worsening it produces in the Panamanians’ quality of life.

Randall Grimm has arrived in Los Angeles in search of his very own happy ending. Within moments of arriving, however, Randall is thrust into the very high-pressure networking atmosphere of a local LGBTQ film festival that his friend insists on attending. Awkward and out-of-place, Randall holds fast to the notion that Hollywood produces its very own happy endings. Soon, he imagines the high-pressure after-party to become the all-too-familiar royal ball of a fairytale; the cynical partygoers adopt the characteristics of evil stepsisters, and Prince Charming exists in the body of a Hollywood Leading Man. However, no Cinderella story can exist without a Fairy Godmother, and Randall deconstructs his happy-ever-after notions so he can discover that the only thing real in Hollywood is the FINAL REEL of whatever genre we write for ourselves.

Anne Braden: Southern Patriot is a first person documentary about the extraordinary life of this American civil rights leader. Braden was hailed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his 1963 Letter from Birmingham Jail as a white southerner whose rejection of her segregationist upbringing was eloquent and prophetic. Ostracized as a red in the 1950s, she fought for an inclusive movement community and mentored three generations of social justice advocates. Braden’s story explores not only the dangers of racism and political repression but also the power of a woman’s life spent in commitment to social justice.

For the first time, the true story of the mastermind behind World War II's Great Escape is told by his niece, Lindy Wilson. Squadron Leader Roger Bushell was a young London barrister, an auxiliary pilot and a champion skier when he was shot down and captured early in the war. He escaped three times and, in spite of the Gestapo's threat to shoot him if he ever escaped again, Bushell accepted the role of 'Big X' on his return to the top-security PoW camp, Stalag Luft 111. After 18 months of preparation, one of the greatest escapes of the war took place. Their aim to distract the enemy succeeded, as it was estimated that five million Germans were deployed to recapture the 76 escapees. However, Hitler's rage was uncontainable and he personally ordered a terrible reckoning. (Storyville)

Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, The X-Men – characters recognized all over the world, and have gained even wider popularity through television and film. What may not be known is that, since the 1970’s, Filipinos have had a significant contribution in these and other characters’ mythologies. In terms of comic book history, these creators are often left unaccredited or, at worse, neglected entirely for their accomplishments. “Illustrated By”: Filipino Invasion of U.S. Comics is a full-length documentary film tracing the phenomenon of Filipino comic artists breaking into the U.S. mainstream. The movie aims to pay tribute to many of these ignored, unacknowledged talents, and showcase their gorgeous artwork.
