Story of a Leprechaun

What drove a company of American soldiers – ordinary young men from around the country – to commit the worst atrocity in American military history? Were they “just following orders” as some later declared? Or, did they break under the pressure of a vicious war in which the line between enemy soldier and civilian had been intentionally blurred? American Experience focuses on the 1968 My Lai massacre, its subsequent cover-up, and the heroic efforts of the soldiers who broke ranks to try to halt the atrocities, and then bring them to light.

Inspired by true events, the film portrays two university students who volunteer for a social program to help orphans in the east coast of Malaysia during their semester holidays. However, the land they are visiting are reclaimed by land developers for their own purposes. A charity concert is held in their effort to help more, but the orphanage gets burnt down. This startling turn of events causes doubt to their new sense of purpose, and forces them to test their adversity.

Written and directed by Jonn Herschend, Self Portrait as a PowerPoint Presentation for an Amusement Park Ride is a corporate PowerPoint proposal for a new roller coaster based entirely on an illicit inter-office affair between the presenter and Linda Cole. It includes ideas for a 'Make Your Own Sandwich Shop' and a secret password for having sex in the supply closet. The proposal, which is created entirely in PowerPoint, takes the viewer through the very basic planning stages for the ride but then transitions to actually becoming the ride itself.

Beyond the Myth is a film about dogs commonly referred to as "pit bulls" and those who love and defend these breeds. It explores the contributing factors behind the public's generalized fear of "pit bulls," and examines the conflict existing between advocates and opponents of breed discriminatory laws, as carried out in three cities that ban pit bull-type dogs: Denver, Miami, and Cincinnati-along with San Francisco, which requires the animals to be spayed and neutered. 23-year-old Anna is completely overwhelmed with bringing up her three children. Ever since her husband shamelessly had an affair in front of her, she has been in an increasingly emotional state of emergency. Anna silently endures the domestic situation and tries to keep the family together. She refuses to admit that she is pregnant again and hides it until she is surprised by the birth.

In 1946, a group of Latvian Brazilian Baptist missionaries arrived to Rincon del Tigre (“Jaguar’s Corner”), in the backwoods of Bolivia, to preach God’s word to the Ayoreo Indians. After sixty years of selfless work in a largely hostile environment, something seems to have gone terribly wrong. Habituated to living under the protective wings of the mission, the Ayoreos seem neither to be willing to support themselves and start living on their own, nor able to return to their traditional way of life in the jungle. Dressed in second-hand clothes, they are stranded in the backwoods of Western-style civilization, with no particular way to go.

A chilling documentary for which Holocaust survivor Henryk Mandelbaum returned to Auschwitz to talk about the horrific year he spent as a ‘‘Sonderkommando’’, a slave labourer forced to search and burn the corpses of fellow Jews murdered in the gas chambers. Until his death in 2008, Mandelbaum was one of very few Sonderkommando to have survived the death camps, execution as collaborators by the Soviets and later reprisals by other Jews. The stories he tells and the photographs used are stomach-churning.
