Her unusual disposition is objectum-sexual, an emotional and sexual attraction to things. The woman’s personal and sexual relation to the wall is contrasted with its historical political significance.

Optical Sound, Taanila’s 2005 wide-screen interpretation of [The User]’s brutalist sound piece for an array of obsolete printers, depicts the devices ratcheting horizontally together in a stalled symphony, inkjets repeatedly blackening the same area on the page. It is not the blurring of man with machine that lies at the core of this film, but the blurring of the spaces that each has been traditionally obliged to occupy. This is a student film made while Adam Bertocci was enrolled at Northwestern University, but compared to many other student films I have seen, it is head and shoulders better. It has excellent writing, direction and a professional quality about it you might not normally expect--plus the film is cute as can be with a really clever story. However, given that I have seen another of Adam Bertocci's excellent short films, LOVE: THE MOVIE, I actually was expecting something special--as LOVE was a heck of a fresh and entertaining film as well. Both films, it turns out, have already received awards and I certainly am not surprised. In fact, I can't wait until Bertocci "turns pro" so to speak--in other words, moves to Hollywood and makes a bazillion bucks making more nice little films--but with bigger budgets. Keep an eye out for this guy.

Federico Vivaldi, a police inspector in Trieste, has an ex-wife with whom he is still on good terms and a 25-year-old son, Stefano, who works for the police with his father while studying for a law degree. One evening, a girl is killed at a party on the coast. Stefano was present at the party with some friends but omits to tell his father this. He fears that Federico will find out that he is gay, especially as the chief suspect is Damjan, an Austrian model with whom Stefano is having an affair. When Federico finds out that his son was present at the party, Stefano confesses that he is homosexual. Federico doesn't understand, thinking that he must have gone wrong somewhere in raising his son. However, as he gets to know Damjan and finally discovers the true culprit, he gradually comes to terms with his son's homosexuality.

Invisible Film reimagines Peter Watkins’s Punishment Park (1971), a radical anti-war film banned in both the UK and the US after the Vietnam War. Melik Ohanian replaces its images with a single static shot of a 35mm projector screening the censored film in daylight in the San Bernardino desert—its original location. Projected without a screen, the image disappears into the desert air, turning cinema itself into both subject and ghost.
