The Class is a video work in which Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook lectures corpses about death in what seems to be a kind of classroom. It was filmed in an actual hospital morgue in Chiang Mai, with unclaimed dead bodies playing the role of the six "students" in the class. The work is a performance in which the artist tries to understand death by lecturing the dead about death, with the lecture offering various definitions of death from different perspectives. Araya at times talks directly to the cadavers, encouraging them to share their own views and experiences, and communicating with them in the same way she would with living people. This attitude demonstrates her attempt to confront something that society has overlooked as well as social taboos and cultural discrimination, and the religious and cultural values that involve death.

Thirty years ago, Communist Cambodian leader Pol Pot set about establishing a nation of people living to serve the state. He insisted that anything private, right down to his subjects' thoughts and emotions, were immoral. When Pol Pot's plan to increase rice production failed, he declared it was due to enemies within the party. Thus began the purge of some of Pol Pot's most devoted followers and their families.

This haunting and beautiful Inuit folktale tells of a fisherman who unwittingly hooks a skeleton. Terrified, he races home trailing the bones in his line, but as he sleeps, the skeleton woman sings back her human form.

The text for this video is based on a mix of personal experience and local lore. I relate my negative childhood feelings about communes to my experience at the Rainbow Gathering. This led to my short lived interest in capitalist aesthetics and media. I began to read "The Futurist Manifesto", books by Ayn Rand, and "Dianetics". I also became involved with online dating through the "Village Voice" personals. I’d spend $25 for the opportunity to send around 10 messages or 20 winks. I went on a few dates, but nothing long term came of it. I became depressed and imagined a stand-in to introduce myself and tell amusing anecdotes, like I often found myself trying to do while on dates. This video was the imagined component for a signage style installation in a corporate lobby, as if I were the founder of the company.

It would be hard for anyone to imagine the combination of a mother and a telegraph pole. How could such a thing be possible? The image of the telegraph pole raising her child using cables in place of arms and legs is quite charming. The spirit of the producer who made such a wild idea into a film is also quite charming.

Clips include Winters sharing the stage with crooner Andy Williams in a "Chevy show"; a 1964 TV special with Honeymooner Art Carney and legendary talk-show host Jack Paar; and Winters as five different characters in a public service announcement.

Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars is a documentary film about the musical band of the same name composed entirely of refugees from Freetown displaced to Guinea during the civil war of Sierra Leone. The film follows the band for three years as they are relocated between various refugee camps in Guinea, and concludes with their return to Freetown and the recording of their first studio album, Living Like A Refugee.
