In the spring of 1948, after the Second World War, a tragedy of large proportions took place in the southern part of the Balkans. As a result of the Civil War in Greece, over 28,000 children between age of 2 and 14, with tears in their eyes, were separated from their parents and siblings and transferred to various East European countries, to be saved from the consequences of the war. Growing up in group homes and camps across Eastern Europe, far away from their families, they carried with them the burden of the memories to all those events. With the assistance of Red Cross they searched for their lost ones over the years. The film portrays the testimonials from some of these 28,000 children refugees who were evacuated from their homes in northern Greece between 1948 and 1949 during the Greek Civil War.

Lampert writes, "Chelsea thieves market, Sunday morning. Overloaded front table, sunglasses, cell phones, Viagra (sold by the pill, $10), assorted hot goods. Inaccessible back table, more of same, two 35mm film cans marked BENETTON. 'Excuse me, what's in those cans?' 'Twenty dollars.' 'Is there film in the cans?' 'Twenty dollars.' 'No, I want to know what is in the cans.' 'Twenty dollars.' Twenty dollars later, four giant 16mm reels, 2 hours of color double-perforated reversal footage, three female models. An entire mid-90s ad campaign shoot obviously orphaned or cast away footage now, curiously, in my hands. BENETTON is the first installment in the ongoing imperfect series produced from an all too perfect source."

Nazi Germany occupied the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg from 1940 to 1944, with the intention of returning the Luxembourgers to their so-called German roots. Paradoxically, this attempt to incorporate Luxembourg into the Third Reich triggered the nation's self-awareness. Using mostly unseen archive footage, the film tells the story of the clash between ideologies: the Nazi vision of a 'German' Luxembourg, colliding violently with the idea of an independent Grand Duchy. For a people who where becoming aware of their national identity, this was a huge cultural shock. The emotional backbone of the film rests on the many testimonies of the people who lived through that tragic period.

A "dogumentary", made according to Lars von Trier's Dogme rules for documentaries. Completely unprepared Pål Hollender and his friend-with-a-death-wish, Swedish pop star Olle Ljungström, went to Afghanistan, wrecklessly diving into the tension building up in September 2002, the anniversary of 9/11 approaching. The result is a series of visually strong and intimate scenes from Afghanistan. The disturbing ignorance of the two friends from Sweden is as relevant as the meeting with the Afghan people and their culture.

So, you are healthy (for the most part) and not a burden to anyone, why should you not choose when you can depart this world. Who better that you to say when enough is enough. That's the tough question to answer, but it is put forth in this film as it focuses on Mademoiselle Lisette Nigot. Of course, the easier question is why can't those with a terminal disease and in constant pain be allowed to go? That example is also given and it is harder for a rational human being to deny this individual relief from pain. The right to die is surely as important as the right to live, or maybe it isn't. You owe it to yourself and society to be informed on the question, and this film does an excellent job of doing just that.
