Unemployed thirty-year-olds Mark and Piotek, unlike their resigned neighbours, resist their fate and move to London for a job. A confidential camera follows their journey from their hometown to the city, where they find no work and end up on the streets. Despite this, they persist in responding to job ads, seeking food, feeling homesick, and dreaming of owning a small bar. The documentary, reminiscent of Ken Loach’s films, captures their resilience and the social challenges of a changing Europe.

Contrary to the Westerners who want to prolong their life, for the Orientals and specially the Muslims, death is the beginning of a new life which they embrace. At least once a week, the people of Tehran go the biggest cemetery in their town (Behesht Zahra) to find a "brief peace" with their dead. This documentary, by presenting the culture of death in Iran, depicts how much death and life, laughter and cries; and sadness and happiness can be close. The cemetery is a rendezvous, a picnic place, a play ground and a training place for the soldiers.

FRONTLINE offers two starkly contrasting images: one of empty storefronts in Circleville, Ohio, where the local TV manufacturing plant has closed down; the other — a sea of high rises in the South China boomtown of Shenzhen. The connection between American job losses and soaring Chinese exports? Wal-Mart. For Wal-Mart, China has become the cheapest, most reliable production platform in the world, the source of up to $25 billion in annual imports that help the company deliver everyday low prices to 100 million customers a week. But while some economists credit Wal-Mart’s single-minded focus on low costs with helping contain U.S. inflation, others charge that the company is the main force driving the massive overseas shift to China in the production of American consumer goods, resulting in hundreds of thousands of lost jobs and a lower standard of living here at home.

In the 1970s, New Zealand artist Allie Eagle identified herself as a lesbian separatist and radical feminist. Her often uncompromising work included pro-abortion painting This Woman Died I Care, which was inspired by a photograph of a woman who died from an illegal abortion. In the 1980s, Eagle became a christian. Made in 2004, Briar March's first, feature-length documentary sees Eagle reflecting on her past with a more moderate outlook — she now has mixed feelings about her earlier stance on abortion.

Artfully directed by award-winning filmmakers Roger Weisberg and Vanessa Roth, "Aging Out" chronicles the daunting obstacles that three young people in foster care encounter as they "age out" of the system and are suddenly on their own for the first time. "Aging Out" is more than a dark chronicle of young people who move from foster care into the welfare, mental health, and criminal justice systems. This emotionally complex film is also a portrait of young adults struggling to overcome the scars of their troubled childhood in order to realize their dreams of independence and fulfillment.

Student politics at Melbourne University has a reputation for being particularly dirty. The campus' student union elections have been skullduggerous affairs contested by groups including Young Labor and Liberals, the More Beer Club, as well as a strong contingent of revolutionary socialists. In 2003, the Melbourne University Student Union (MUSU) was on the verge of financial collapse. Allegations of corruption against the union's right-wing student leaders featured in the foremost pages of both The Australian and The Age. Having spent two years in the political wilderness, the campus' left wing factions united in a desperate bid to wrest back control and save the union. The State of the Union is a documentary capturing the bloodiest election in the history of student unionism, providing an illuminating and often humorous insight into the microcosm that is university politics, and perhaps politics in general.
