Japan has created many traditional art forms - the Nô theater is one of the most fascinating! Tranquillity, sublimity, clarity are words that come to mind when you first see a performance in the distinguished Nô National Theater in Tokyo. This art has been preserved and cultivated for 600 years. Exact guidelines determine every step, every word, every movement of the performers. Wrapped in heavy, exquisite costumes, they move across the stage as if in slow motion - accompanied by three drums, flute and choir. The main actor, Shite, also wears a mask - because the Nô is the oldest still existing mask theater in the world.

In The Art of Travel, Alain de Botton sweeps us away on a journey into the world of travel, opens up our mind to new pleasures and possibilities, and enriches our experience of travel and life. Alain sets out on four separate journeys: a Mediterranean cruise, a city break in Amsterdam, a fly-drive holiday around former East Germany and a holiday at home in a caravan park in Kent. On each of his journeys, he reflects on the strange business of going travelling and has encounters, some poignant, others hilarious, with fellow holiday makers. He mixes his own thoughts together with those of famous artists and writers: Vermeer, Edward Hopper, and John Ruskin among others. The result is a beguiling and beautiful film that modestly suggests how we could learn to be happier on our journeys

With the opening up of the economy, grassroots democracy has come. But since the land is owned by the state, the local government actually has absolute control. The so-called democratically elected village chief quickly learns that his role is to cooperate with the government in using land to develop the economy. Power-to-money transactions are open secrets. Due to the uneven economic development in the villages, each has a different story, but the use of land for profit is a constant theme. The filming location is a rural village in the outside Beijing. Less of focus is how villages elect than the mutation after. Faced with huge land assets and overseeing relationships between land, power, economics, social systems, how does a hard-working, upright peasant conduct himself? This film documents the pain: the experience of soul sublimation and degeneration. We see 'birth defects' in this "democracy" — one without checks and balances, grafted onto autocracy.

This film originated from a multi-media performance called Three Posters, conceived and staged by Mroué and the Lebanese novelist Elias Khoury, and first performed in Beirut in 2000. The performance centred on an unedited tape made by Jamal al-Sati, a fighter for Lebanon’s National Resistance Front. This shows three ‘takes’ of his martyr testimony rather than the approved version that was aired on Lebanese television. The three ‘takes’ allowed Mroué and Khoury to question the status of suicide videos and martyr posters, and to examine the ideological circumstances surrounding their production and place within the visual culture and political history of Lebanon.

With the screen-filling appeal 'Comrades!', director Marja Pensala makes it clear early on in her film what she wants to talk about: the dated conceptual apparatus of socialism and the outdated ideals associated with it. In eight chapters – from “Virgin Birth” to “The Seventh Day” – she shows how the oppressive utopia has been exchanged for meaningless freedom. Black and white archive material of flag parades and Russians kissing each other has been cut with contrasting current street images in colour. The homemade sounds and communist battle songs under the silent archive material give the experimental film a comical effect.

They see a crazy man who runs away when he sees them and drops a small wooden statue of monkey. They keep it. They travel on and come across a village whose inhabitants have all been violently killed by what seems to have been an animal. They leave the village and meet a starving man. They share their food with him and tell him about the statue and the village. He warns them that if they keep the statue which is of the legendary monkey monster named "Kong Koy" to cover it with a small holy cloth or face the "evil". He gives them the cloth and goes. They return home and the statue is stolen by one of the Professor's students, Joe. He removes the protective cloth and conjures up the monkey monster.
