Happiness (finally) after 35,000 years of civilization presents a 15-minute looped digital Flash animation inspired by as much by the history of utopian thought and the US invasion of Iraq as by Web 1.0 banner ads. Completed as part of his MFA degree at Bard College, Happiness also reflects Chan’s formative undergraduate years at the School of the Art Institute, where he first encountered the work of Chicago-based self-taught artist Henry Darger.

In 1861, Brigham Young called 309 families to setle the St. George area and begin a cotton industry in Utah's Dixie. Those who answered his call had no idea of the hardships that awaited them. Intense heat, drought, flash floods and disease tested their determination and faith. From the call of Jacob Hamblin to teach the Indians of the area, through the struggle to establish a cotton crop, build the tabernacle, opera house, court house and the great challenge of constructing the St. George Temple on swampland, you will be astonished and moved by the story of those who built "A Temple Dressed in White.”

"Topeka Remembers" takes viewers on a trip through Topeka's history, from its founding in December 1854 to the establishment of the Santa Fe railroad to its early sports teams. Interviews with residents tell a personalized history of the capital city.

In 1896 James Brendan Connolly, son of emigrant parents from the Aran Islands won the first athletics* Gold Medal at the Athens Olympics. He also won silver for High Jump and bronze in the Long jump. He later set a world record for the long jump that stood for 13 years. A friend of president Teddy Roosevelt, he developed into a war correspondent and novelist. In his prime he was better known than Rudyard Kipling. This documentary celebrates his life.

"Days of Our Lives" meets Gershom Scholem BEAUTIFUL JEW - reflects on the infamous 17th Century Jewish Messiah Sabbatai Zevi, his apostasy to Islam and his incarnation as a used car salesman. The film was shot in Jerusalem, Nablus, Palestine, and in Alberta. Made prior September 11, the film is a kind of mutant Prairie baroque tale genetically engineered with a neo-Fassbinder sensibility and theatricality.

A 13 minute animated film about different shapes

Short film Vrruummm!!!, directed by Paula Dager (2003), combines different techniques and materials, including stop motion, photography, and footage of the city, to construct a kind of urban symphony guided by a soundtrack that moves between rhythms of nature, traffic noise, and musical compositions that weave these worlds together. Through movements that shift from asphalt to greenery, from traffic signs to luminous abstractions of a busy avenue, the film transforms everyday life into visual poetry: workers’ trousers rhyme with road signage, signs seem to dance at night, cars turn into beams of light and then into colorful brushstrokes. In this interplay between form and rhythm, Vrruummm!!! reimagines the invisible labor that sustains the city’s circulation, the hammering at construction sites, the sweeping of asphalt, the placing and removal of traffic cones, turning these repetitive gestures into an urban choreography.

When tragedy at sea claims a young seaman's life, the whole Urk fleet unites in a recovery mission, and Urkers mourn the loss of another son. While fishermen ply remote seas for weeks at a time, their families wait anxiously for their safe return. As one fisherman says, "I never leave home without saying goodbye, because if you lose your life at sea, for your mother it wouldn't be nice that she didn't get to say goodbye." Against the stunning backdrop of Urk and the tempestuous North Sea, amazingly candid first-person reflections are woven into a beautiful tapestry of pride, faith, fatalism-- and loss.

Through interviews, as well as Cohen's own photographs and scenes from his classic film The High Lonesome Sound: Kentucky Mountain Music, filmmaker Tom Davenport focuses on Cohen's journey to rural Kentucky in the 1950s to document the lives of the people there and his "discovery" of the musician Roscoe Holcomb. Remembering the High Lonesome also examines the birth of a new artistic ethic and counterculture through John Cohen's involvement with the Beat Generation, abstract expressionist painters, and the Folk Music Revival, and explores the role of an outsider documenting the life and arts of an Appalachian community.

"Where or When" is a 2003 film by Iranian film director Bahman Pour-Azar. He co-wrote the film script with Jun Kim over seven years, but shot the entire movie in less than a week at various locations in both New York and New Jersey. It stars Mitchell Conwell, Shelly DeChristofaro, Jun Kim, and Carl Monego. The film was produced for less than US$50,000. The 85-minute feature was inspired by the 1959 French classic "Hiroshima Mon Amour" directed by Alain Resnais, and contains the classic show tune "Where Or When" from the 1937 Rodgers and Hart musical "Babes In Arms".

In 1936, hearing the Passionaria's call : "Spaniards from all countries, come and defend your homeland!", he joined the republican army. In 1941, he took part to the miners' strike against the occupation forces - he was then arrested on September 13 (after being denounced) for his activities in the Resistance and was imprisoned in Valenciennnes to be later sent to Mauthausen concentration camp. Through this portrait, we are given the opportunity to give back to history its human dimension ; it shows that such notions as resistance or solidarity are not merely words but that they are truly incarnated in men or women who could be our neighbours or our parents.
