Both vassals are killed by the enemy, but Shizu-Hime escapes. She wanders, destitute, for a short time and meets Shinbei. Shinbei at first takes her for a boy, and a thief, but shares his food with her. Just as he realizes that she is a girl, two warriors com swooping down and carry her away, pursued by more men in the uniforms of those who were chasing her before. Shinbei hears them call her a princess, and begins to plot to capture her and turn her in for a reward.

The documentary film "Marlen. Farewell to the Sixties" is an attempt to go back to the sixties. In addition to the main character of the film, Marlen Martynovich Khutsiev, his sixties friends will try to go back in time and evaluate their lives and films from the distance of the years they lived: Georgy Danelia, Pyotr Todorovsky, Sergei Shakurov, Yuri Rost, Pavel Finn and others.

The Wichí inhabit a wide geographic region, but their settlements are primarily located in the provinces of Formosa and Chaco, and in the eastern part of Salta. Formerly, they were hunter-gatherers who lived in small bands, with a strong tendency toward isolation from other bands. Today, the impossibility of exploiting the surrounding environment as they once did, the persistent Anglican preaching, economic pressure from whites, and their illnesses constitute a context in which many young people view abandoning their groups in search of a better future in towns and cities positively.

Trecartin and his collaborator/co-star Lizzie Fitch ponder the messages delivered by the most banal forms of mass media and pop culture in their own unique version of a music video. They voice questions in song and dance segments that feature a deliberately ill-fitting pastiche of discarded fashions of the past two decades and recycled pop-music clichés. Totally immersed in their meticulously crafted private universe, Trecartin and Fitch coyly point at the gaudy artifice surrounding us in our own.

It is a catchphrase of Yevgeniy Yufit, the father of the Russian necrorealist movement and the hero of the film. This word well describes his attitude towards and interest in specific elements of Russian masculinity, which have been among the several themes of his own films. The second protagonist is Yuri Zverlin, an artist from St. Petersburg and star of Yufit’s feature “Killed by Lightning”; the third, an anonymous “Lenfilm” filmmaker. We were on a trip to the sacred monastery of lake Seliger; it all started inside its ecological pyramid, built without single nail supposedly maintaining the equilibrium of the region. It has no effect on us…

Ariana tells the story of a film crew that sets out to visit the Pandjsher Valley in Northern Afghanistan. Described in classic Persian poetry as a ‘paradise garden,’ the impenetrable nature of the valley and its lush, fertile landscape have set it apart from the rest of the country and encouraged a history of independence and resistance. Hugonnier’s film considers how the specificities of a landscape help to determine its history. After the crew is unable to film the valley from a vantage point in the surrounding Hindu Kush mountains, Ariana becomes the story of a failed project that prompts a process of reflection about the ‘panorama’ as a form of strategic overview, as a cinematic camera move, and its origins as pre-cinematic mass entertainment.

This comedy is about four down on their luck cab drivers who try to make some money any way they can.

A performance for two projectionists using two 16mm projectors with freeze-frame. This performance version further animates the newspaper text by using intermittent projection, pausing and re-starting the film on its way through the projector. The pauses allow us to read chance fragments of the newspaper. In performing the work two identical prints are shown superimposed with a slight difference in image size, which varies throughout the performance. The projectionists attempt to bring the two films into synchronisation with each other by alternately freezing and running the films. During these brief periods of synchronisation something unexpected happens as a result of the slight misregistration of the two identical images and of their accompanying sounds.
