Filmed in Karachi, Lahore, and London, Eating Grass comprises five overlapping narratives, each representing different emotional states experienced throughout the day that are marked by the Muslim tradition of the five daily prayers. The film’s title references a remark made by Pakistan’s Prime Minister. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in 1974 amid the nuclear arms race with India. He said his people would have their own nuclear weapon even if it meant “eating grass.”

A 20-something couple is having a date. They want to make love but they don’t have enough money or time. They look for a place where they can have sex.

By chance, Lenny, a young children's book author, discovers a roll of film in an old camera. Curious, he has it developed and is astonished to find that the pictures must have been taken in Prague in 1968, towards the end of the Prague Spring. One of the photos shows a young woman. To find out more about her, Lenny publishes it in a Prague daily newspaper. The effect is disastrous: his family's house is broken into and his father is murdered. Lenny is certain that there is a connection, because the photos have also disappeared. But neither his sister Isabell nor the police believe him. Shortly afterwards, he receives an anonymous letter containing only a Prague address. With this vague clue, Lenny sets off for the Czech capital.

Two friends go on a trip. They're having fun and smoking joints. Suddenly, something unexpected happens...

The psychological story begins innocently enough with a meeting between two young people in the basement of a suburban house. A flirtatious and bored girl, who is not particularly selective about her lovers, provokes an unpredictable reaction in her partner with her unexpected rejection. Not only does the boy rape the girl, but, fearing discovery, he kills her. All this is witnessed by a little boy wandering through the holiday-empty house, who thus becomes an inconvenient and dangerous witness for the murderer. The psychological and later physical "battle" between these two unequal opponents, who are not really opponents at all, culminates in a story of guilt and punishment, and at the same time of a special friendship and loyalty.

Hard, harder, hardest! This film orders you from the start to turn up the volume and pay attention. "Look out! We're Coming to Get You!" is a flood of images driven by a tempest of guitars. The film's creators jam 20 years of German music history into 120 minutes of film. Musicians from BLIND PASSENGERS, DIE SKEPTIKER, SANDOW and other bands explode their way through the film. Fans of the DEFA documentary "Flüstern und Schreien" ("Whisper and Shout") already know the stars of that film, Aljoscha, Paul and Flake of the band Feeling B. Here they have a chance to see how these musicians survived the period after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the "escalation of possibilities" that came with it. And you're allowed to laugh, too!
