Monkey Trial is a film that pits scientific discovery against religious fervor. It's about a moment in history when two men faced each other across a courtroom, each trembling with rage, each attacking the faith of the other. The clash symbolized a new fault line in American culture — a time when scientific advances began to challenge the bedrock of truth that the Bible represented to so many people. Filmmaker Christine Lesiak (Around the World in 72 Days) weaves together interviews with leading historians, America's foremost scholars, and Dayton residents who sat in the courthouse, to vividly capture the passions that were unleashed for three weeks in July of 1925. In doing so, she begins to strip away the myths that obscure the meaning of one of the most important trials of the century.

Along with his fellow unemployed friends Nicki and Greg, Hunter agrees to set aside his most recent Noam Chomsky book and swallow an experimental anti-depressant. Unlike Prozac, however, this drug doesn't encourage proper brain chemistry as much as it induces stupidity. Ignorance really is bliss for Hunter; while he finds himself increasingly unconcerned with the state of the world, he's also becoming progressively dumber.
The documentary focuses on the plight of the bilby, a small big eared, long nosed unusual creature of the Australian outback that has been marginalised by rabbits, feral predators and humans. But there are two humans that put the bilby first and have gone on to capture the imagination of their local community, politicians, government bureaucrat and the wider population because they have single handedly turned the tables on an almost extinct species. Candy company Darrell Lea contributes a percentage of sales to Save the Bilby Fund, ($185,000AU to date) and the sanctuary has been built thanks to the chocolate eating Australian public and The Bilby Brothers, who have spent practically every waking moment of the past decade working to save this little oddball from extinction. Their work is a phenominal example of how one person CAN make a difference.
The Disobbedienti emerged from the Tute Bianche during the demonstrations against the G8 summit in Genoa in July 2001. The “Tute Bianche” were the white-clad Italian activists who used their bodies – protected by foam rubber, tires, helmets, gas masks, and homemade shields – in direct acts and demonstrations as weapons of civil disobedience. The Tute Bianche first appeared in Italy in 1994 in the midst of a social setting in which the “mass laborer,” who had played a central role in the 1970s in production and in labor struggles, was gradually replaced in the transition to precarious post-Fordist means of production. “Disobbedienti” thematizes the Disobbedienti’s origins, political bases, and forms of direct action on the basis of conversations with seven members of the movement.
