This film restores an era in the history of Syria, which is the post-independence stage, in order to tell a social story that aims to research human relations and the changes that occurred in rural society. And the plot of this film is not just events that were revealed by the author's memory, but rather impressions of certain events that remained in his imagination. Therefore, the dramatic events were woven as legends of the place, and this is what made the place a unique privacy and the events are closely related to it. It is a social story that talks about the destinies of a group of people that gives a complete and comprehensive picture and a wide panorama of the Syrian countryside at the end of the forties, trying to rely on the popular heritage by weaving relationships between the characters and their way of understanding the events.

This film continues MacDougall's long-term study of an elite boys' boarding school in northern India. It focuses on a group of twelve-year-olds during their first year in one of the 'houses' for new boys. The film concerns their attachment to the house, but, more importantly, their attachment to one another in a communal life. It follows, in particular, the experiences of one boy and several of his close associates, from their initial homesickness, to their life as member of the group, to their separation from the house at the end of the year.

"One sees a close-up shot of a glass being filled with water. Bubbles are formed but slowly the water regains its still quality. The glass then acts as a deformative device between the viewer and the artist, as a hand is writing "don't do to her what you did to me" on the back of the photographs. Everything is still again for a short while until, slowly and majestically, a flush of black ink flows downwards, staining the water... The ink preludes the more dramatic fate of the repeated haunting images, the deceased woman. One hears a metallic sound as the photographs move in a more frenetic spin. One is aware of the glass again, of the limited space where a struggle takes place between a probable spoon and the photographs which dematerialise under one's eyes. The sheer immediacy of the destruction process is intensified as the image dissolves into an organic paste. Then, a woman, the artist, drinks the solution, the last ironic phase of the talisman." -S.Z

Be it myth or ancient religion the age-old story of Nuliajuk is the key to a mystery; a haunting and gripping tale that opens a window into the soul of the Inuit. Two people set out in search of the elusive and mythical Nuliajuk, a female deity whose presence is seen in countless works of Inuit art. Rarely spoke of, and even then in awe or terror, her presence is nonetheless a central one in traditional Inuit spirituality.

Shot just after Sogo dropped out of art school, Problem's You consists of nine rolls of unedited Super-8 film, capturing streets, interiors, and beaches in and around New York City. Each shot was made in a single take, and the rolls' absence of editing emphasizes the importance Sogo placed on chance and spontaneity, a tendency influenced by Jonas Mekas and John Cage.

The Inspirator is an installation that incorporates projected video, a mirrored fountain and glitter ball/s. The filmed image is of someone dressed as a panda playing the trumpet in the forest. He bursts from a glittery explosion to play his badly synched performance for a few minutes before turning to retreat into the forest bubble. The footage repeats itself on a continuous loop. The footage is projected into a masked circular frame cut at the top and bottom by the wall's limits and the room is painted dark green outside this projected area. The fountain is filled with running water, the sound of which is amplified through speakers that are built into its sides, adding another layer to the installation's sound. The film's soundtrack was produced specially by Matty Skylab.

The introductory text of as they pass is spoken calmly and quietly. The voice doesn't tell a story, it conveys atmosphere. It´s superimposed over images that flare up briefly and are punctuated by relatively long intervals of black frames whenever the viewer begins to orient him or herself. And suddenly, the images in Bödenauer´s animation made with silk paint on glass - start to overlay one another: They´re arranged by layer, extending into the screen´s depths, and the uppermost layer flows apart, revealing the one below it. In the end they seem to have all moved away, their composition has turned into strips of color which zip upward or to the side. This is accompanied by an increasing volume of sound. At the film´s conclusion there is openness rather than a point.

Documentary by Andres Sööt about the years of 1996 and 1997. The film chronicle covering two years can be viewed as a continuation to Sööt's earlier films "Year of the Dragon" and "Year of the Horse". All three documentaries are the portraits of years, modelled by the director himself. There is neither a systematic nor exhaustive approach towards the selected times in history - what has been followed is the chronological order of events. Andres Sööt documents and comments both from a neutral as well as his personal point of view.

One-hundred strong, the herd slowly makes its way through the shifting sands, following the promise of ephemeral desert rains. This is the remarkable, precarious, and untold story of a lost herd of elephants that live near the fabled city of Timbuktu. How the elephants survive in this seemingly barren, desolate landscape is a mystery. It is one however that Anne Orlando, a biologist from the University of California, hopes to unravel. For the first time she will track the elephants to uncharted lands and reveal the relationship they have with Tuareg nomads - a relationship which can be both respectful, and bloody. The lost elephants of Timbuktu are completely isolated from other African elephants - they were cut off from each other as the Sahara turned to desert centuries ago. They have survived in this unlikely setting by having a mental map of scattered temporary lakes and marshes.

Sixty years ago, while in the prime of their youth, thousands of young Latter-day Saints humbly stepped forward, prepared to sacrifice their lives so that the nightmare of tyranny might end. The second world war brought untold horrors, degradation, and the tragic loss of life. The Faith, service, and sacrifice of these stalwart Church members changed the face of the world…and influenced the next generations in profound ways. These are the scoutmasters, the choristers, the bishops, and the home teachers–ward members who went about their daily work with the same diligence and passion that defined their generation. Drawing on hundreds of oral and written histories from Church leaders and veterans around the world, this stunning video chronicles the harsh realities of war and the miracles that seemed both abundant and ever present–the remarkable stories of Saints at War.

". . . Nevertheless, Fogel pushes these pictures of escalators and suitcase-toting travelers deeply into lyrical, Rorschach-symmetrical abstraction. In the course of moving from video to film, the images become flattened into painterly icons and patterns; their contrast has been increased, and the colors shifted into gemlike purples, greens and blues. Edited with a primal shape-based rhythm, Airport Architecture was created for a live musical accompaniment by Greta Cohn and James Hoff." —Ed Halter
