Sharp edged "chunks" of color set in black, straight, often multicolored, lines piercing shapes, imprisoning them, until they are fragmented bits of color in black: repeat of this theme again and again until darkness prevails, but is then broken open by pure white shards and "spears" restoring the original "dance" of hard-edge shapes and lines, which then begin to whirl clockwise, interspersed with fade-outs, and then shatter into "confetti" texture, in black, burnt "sugar-shapes" and the overwhelming flare of yellow.

Only one group tries to incorporate all follicle factions. They are the Superstarlets.

Born in 1920 in Nankunshen, Tainan, orphaned at a young age, Hung Tung worked as a laborer, fisherman, and spiritual medium before suddenly beginning to paint at fifty. His densely imagined world—filled with plants, humans, animals, gods, ghosts, and symbols—captivated the Taiwanese art scene of the 1970s and secured his reputation as a legendary folk artist. Combining observational footage, interviews, and a distinctive musical structure—from Tibor Szemző’s evocation of innocence to Leonard Cohen’s “Bird on the Wire”—the film traces a life of solitude, frustration, and pride, shaping a restrained yet poignant portrait of an artist who remained fiercely autonomous within his own inner universe.

Krzysztof Wierzbicki, the director’s assistant on ‘First Love,’ found the film’s protagonists decades later and went with a camera to Canada, where they lived. He shot ‘Horoscope’ (2000), which confirms Kieślowski’s initial prediction from 1974. Ewa — the girl we saw being born in ‘First Love’ — did have a daughter when she was 20 years old. Once again, the reality lent the dramaturgy to the film.

In 2000, which was ‘Ensor Year’, the installation artist Guillaume Bijl made a short fictitious found-footage film entitled ‘James Ensor in Oostende ca. 1920’, which shows the painter at this resort with his friends. We see them having a drink, strolling in the arcades of the Thermae Palace and sitting on the beach. Bijl’s meticulous choice of locations, belle époque dress (including bathing costumes) and his cinematographically perfect imitation of the rather jerky black & white images, as well as the patina and the perfectly imitated scratches on the film emulsion, all resulted in a perfect replica: an apparently forgotten roll of film from the days of silent film. Bijl himself classifies this faultless slice of life, one of his rare excursions into film and video, under ‘cultural tourism’, one of the elements of his work in which he popularizes cultural history subjects and reduces them to clichés for the general public.

Documentary-staged film monograph, a conversation about the fate of a generation, in the center of which is one of his idols — actor, director, poet and novelist Leonid Filatov. The film was shot in connection with Leonid Filatov's unfinished game picture "The Adventures of Tolik Paramonov" based on his novel "Freedom or Death" (a Soviet dissident leaves for the West and becomes a communist there). The film was put into production in 1993 at the Rossfilm studio, but a serious illness prevented the director from finishing the production. The desire to acquaint the viewer with this work was the purpose of creating this project.

Jeroen cleverly digs into the pasts of the men, fathoms their strange relationship and feeds the repressed tension. He uses the situation to his own ends.
