Taking place between June 1675 and August 1676, between the colonists of the Massachusetts Bay Colonies of New England and the Native American Wampanoag Tribe, this was considered the bloodiest war per capita in this country's history. Native Americans and historians of the period believe this war was one of the most significant, seminal events in American history.

Shores of Silence: Whale Sharks in India is a landmark film by Mike Pandey that brought about major legislative changes to protect whale sharks worldwide. This documentary depicts the needless killing and harvesting of whale sharks by poor Indian communities. In response to the film, the Indian government introduced legislation to ban fishing of whale sharks, declaring them endangered species and protecting them under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. This gives whale sharks equal status to other endangered species such as tigers and rhinoceroses. Internationally, the film helped to bring the whale shark global protection under CITES. The film won 11 international awards including The Wildscreen Panda, also known as the Green Oscar. Recently, the film received four stars from the Hindustan Times.

A village in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing has been home to young rock musicians and bands from all over the country since 1997. From 1999 to 2000, there were hundreds of people and more than 30 bands. The art and life style of this generation of young people starts from here...Sun Zhiqiang surpassed the status of an ordinary documentary worker, shooting as a member of the underground rock scene to the most calm and calm appearance of the original ecology of underground music. The film seems to record only one thing, that is love. Since Sun Zhiqiang came to Beijing from Xinjiang in 1997, he never stopped observing and filming the lives of Beijing rock bands and marginal art youth. He has adopted the closest and unique perspective to silently capture the era of cultural turmoil. A generation of youth movements destined to change the direction of future culture.

"In the video ‘John 3:16’...a reference to a passage so often quoted that its sort of the Biblical code for the New Testament that gives you the formula for salvation and eternal life. There’s an interesting kind of resonance that I see between this idea of a formula for salvation and eternal life and the promise of digital media that never break down and literally can live forever...that can always be copied endlessly. In a way, the medium itself represents a kind of promise that almost has spiritual overtones." - Paul Pfeiffer

Otherrehto is a short digital video construct of re-agitated film frames of a roiling rorschach set to the rhythm of the rolling text of a small excerpt from S.T. Coleridge's “night-conversations” in which he speculates upon the “force of suppressed Instincts stirring in the heart & bodily frame” of St. Theresa of Avila. All unfurling to voices risen in praise and the tuneful glissando of a record grinding to halt.

Death of Game is the remake of a scene from Bruce Lee's film, Game of Death. The mid seventies was a period of growing visibility of actors of color in Blaxploitation and Asian action films. These genres both gave mainstream exposure to but also paradoxically reinforced the stereotypes of Blacks and Asians. The moment of the meeting and subsequent fight between Bruce Lee and Kareem Abdul Jabar represents a point of contact defiantly outside of a dominant, white culture.

ALL THAT'S SOLID (and) MELTS INTO AIR are each separate films shot at an exhibition of the urban landscape artist Tyree Suyton in Cambridge at Harvard. I was struck by the redemptive critical and visionary character of his work which struck me as similar to G.M. Hopkins or Clarence Smith. Coincidentally as I was shooting these films I went to a screening of Charles Burnett and asked him what film he would like to make but couldn't get the money for. He replied, "a feature narrative about Tyree Suyton." So I put together four of the films from Spring 2000 into a four-film work called "4 For Charles Burnett - All That's Solid Melts Into Air". They are: ALL THAT'S SOLID, LIGHT LICK, TOSCANINI'S EUROPEAN SIDEWALK CAFE, and MELTS INTO AIR.

This feature documentary offers a reflection on the changing reality of work. The 20th century has seen the creation of colossal wealth and exploding economies. Yet, the days of industry providing mass employment are over. In the global economy, human resources are being replaced more and more by technology. Will this revolution mean the end of work as we know it? Contributing to the discussion are V. Forrester, author of The Economic Horror; US economist J. Rifkin; J. Attali, former president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and other experts.

The camera is filming people walking through streets and parks, but is not following anyone in particular or trying to register any particular event. Sometimes the images are blurred and filtered by falling snow, or are filmed via the reflecting surfaces of metal or water. They are distorted into scarcely recognizable, elegantly moving fields of colour, or dreamy contours in tones of grey. The image is carefully framed and divided into horizontals and verticals. The branches of trees in the foreground or floating leaves and circles on the water give it depth, thereby perfecting the composition.
