In August of 1989, Alain Brosseau, a waiter at the Chateau Laurier finished his shift and walked through Major’s Hill Park on his way to Hull. In the park he was chased, beaten, and then dropped head first off the Alexandria Bridge by a gang of teenagers. As they held him by his ankles off the side of the bridge, the last thing his murderers said was “I like your shoes."

The quintessential Supermodel, famous for changing her image radically from season to season, the Linda Phenomenon personifies the ideals of femininity in this culture and evokes the queer practice of passing from day to day. Backed by a soundtrack of French love songs sung by Vietnamese superstar-singer Thanh Lan, the tape poses questions about queer childhood narratives, cross-gender and cross-racial identification.

The "china girls" who appeared in these unseen film frames were posing for far less than aesthetic purposes and more for technical reasons. Their fleshtones and accompanying color-charts helped the film lab technicians calibrate the color-rendition of the film stock. The soundtrack is the 1981 new wave hit "I'm In Love with a German Film Star" by The Passions.

Set in Northern Ireland of the future, Computer genius O'Brien is working hard to build the VIPER, a military supercar. He is captured, and the computer codes to the car are stolen. The subsequent fight by O'Brien and friends to retrieve theses codes involves explosions, car chases, treachery, death, zombies and the resurrection of St Patrick.

A film about romance movies, chocolate and a leading lady

The seminal short film O Happy Day imagines the early days of gay liberation for black gay men. Lofton juxtaposes images of black men from late 60s and early 70s films with images of Black Panther Party demonstrations, as a way of intentionally revising history. The soundtrack is punctuated by a 1970 quotation from Black Panther leader Huey Newton: "There's nothing to say that a homosexual cannot also be a revolutionary. Quite on the contrary, maybe a homosexual could be the most revolutionary..." O Happy Day blurs the difference between the Black Power movement and the Gay Power movement, and instead focuses on the similarities between the two.

Savoniha belongs to the “Old Believers,” a sect of the Russian Orthodox Church that was exiled to Buryatia, Siberia, a few centuries ago. Since then, they never ceased to be persecuted. Savoniha, who was 95 years old when this documentary was filmed, witnessed Stalin’s anti-religious campaign, losing her father, one of the main spiritual representatives of the Siberian Old Believers.

Michel J consists of a series of portraits drawn from a video that was filmed during the religious service for the death of Michel Journiac in October 1995. A video work at first, it uses photography and ends up in painting, in pictorialness, through numerous references to the History of art and to ancient and modern painting.

Granular Synthesis are the new media, video art, and music duo Kurt Hentschläger and Ulf Langheinrich, who take their name from the practice of sampling "microsounds" (audio clips lasting 1 to 50 milliseconds) to create new compositions. Part of a series of video and installation pieces, "Sweetheart" features a single close-up of performer Akemi Takeya. It was produced for the Austrian T.V. network ORF.
