White Jazz, Nicola Black’s highly acclaimed documentary, follows cult crime writer James Ellroy’s quest to find his mother’s murderer. Ellroy takes the viewer on a visceral journey through the streets of Los Angeles as he re-opens the files of his own mother’s brutal killing in the 1950s.

It tells the story of Santos, a silversmith who travels constantly, often leaving his wife, Rosa, alone. Rumors reach his ears that she has a lover, and one night, after a trip, he returns unexpectedly to find his wife with her lover, Helme.

In 1630, Rubens who is settled in Anvers marries in a second marriage Hélène Fourment. In the huge studio he has had built, he paints several portraits of Hélène, in the garden, in furs, in a carriage, which are minutely analysed in this film. It was created using the cut-paper technique: the painter, immobilized by illness, cuts shapes from sheets of paper previously coated with gouache. He directs an assistant who pins them and moves them on the wall until the desired balance is achieved. Scissors, handled with dexterity, thus henceforth replace pencils and brushes. The pure tones used in the composition eliminate all shading and allow the painter to play solely on the relationships between colors and, above all, on contrasts: black and white (considered by Matisse as colors in their own right), red and blue, green and yellow...

In 1922, Ryochu Umeda was traveling through Russia to Berlin on a scholarship funded by the Buddhist University in Tokyo. On the train he met Stanisław Michowski, who was returning from the Bolshevik War. Michowski knew Japanese and persuaded Umeda to visit Warsaw. The Japanese man knew nothing about Poland, but he followed Michowski’s advice and got off at the station in Warsaw. He stayed there until 1939. He taught Japanese at the University of Warsaw and translated Polish literature into Japanese (including Quo Vadis). Yoshiho will be spoken about by his friends and family.

Qiu Zhijie spent five years copying Wang Xizhi’s (303–361) Lantingxu (‘Preface to the Orchid Pavilion’) one thousand times. The video shows the artist writing calligraphy with an ink brush. As the black ink fills the paper, the strokes lose their distinctiveness, and the text becomes illegible. Eventually, only a black rectangular field remains.

In their first meeting, Mercado knocked Hopkins down twice, but Hopkins rallied late, though the high altitude and hometown scoring may have influenced the result The IBF ordered an immediate rematch, this time in Landover, Maryland, for the still-vacant middleweight title. Hopkins, determined to correct his mistakes, studied tapes of aggressive fighters like Mike Tyson to refine his approach. Mercado, confident after nearly dethroning Hopkins, sought to capitalize on his previous success. The stage was set for a decisive showdown.
