Dedi (Dede Yusuf), who married Menul (Ayu Azhari), when they were very young, tries to make a living as a clown at an amusement park. This job does not pay enough for him to make ends meet, so he and a number of his friends try to find a way out of the poverty they are trapped in. The opportunity comes when they find a the wallet of a wealthy man, who is impressed when they return it to him, and provides them with the capital to open a food stall, which they use as a stepping stone toward opening a restaurant. Through this story, the director, Chairul Raya, attempts to depict the way of life of the poor, while using the subplot of the love story between the clown and his wife to display his disdain for the mainstream tendencies in the Indonesian film industry. This film is at once moving and humorous.

He, too, falls in love with her and makes her Glamour Girl Number One. Rodney and Venus dance in Central Park, but Rodney is arrested for stealing the statue.

Anguely V Rayou is another example of these "youth without future" films. Based on the novel Two Notebooks by Piotr Kojevnikov, the action takes place in the Leningrad of 1975, when the "stagnation" era is at its peak. Two teenagers, Micha and Galia, are experiencing a slow death in the slums of the city. Galia's aunt is going crazy in her desperation. Micha's mother is killed by a drunk. One of their friends has committed suicide. These kids are typical of a generation wasted by alcohol and misfortune. Some are bound to become outcasts, some will be destroyed, and others will be sacrificed in Afghanistan. The title is ironic, as there is neither paradise nor angels in this story.

Another story about the all-conquering power of art. In the city there lived a boy who learned to play the violin. He was very talented. And at concerts after his performances, the audience stood up and applauded him. And three bandits were operating in the city, who had no idea what beautiful classical music was. The bandits robbed everything they could get their hands on. They ransacked the pockets of passers-by, took things out of apartments, unscrewed light bulbs from lanterns, and even ripped off telephone sets. And one day, when the violinist was returning from a concert, the bandits attacked him too. They demanded to give the boy's violin, but he flatly refused.

Interviews with male prostitutes in Dublin city are repeated on camera by actors nonetheless cast in shadow as if they were the people in question. This footage is interspersed with grainy hand held, slow motion images of actors playing out typical rent boy scenes.
