Electron was originally an installation commissioned by TSWA for Bellever Forest on Dartmoor and comprised a circle of seven monitors encased in steel boxes. Its images are of pylons, the Thames bank with its "seats of institutional power" including Big Ben (Goddard's early work often contains public clocks): a fly caught in amber and an electrical spiral. She describes the piece as "a combination of mythology and technology" relating ancient objects like stone circles, and on the soundtrack are Blake's Jerusalem and a Celtic lament to the physical means of relaying electricity. An apocalyptical view of society and its discontents is underpinned by her idea of an invisible force - this time a physical one - the charged particles of electricity, a kind of natural chaos.

"The Ballad of the Wood" reveals the traditional architecture of the houses of the Western Black Sea region for centuries has been passed down from father to son, from master to apprentice through secrets and a technique known as "canti". Some of the houses shown have been standing for the last 100 to 150 years. The film honors the great craftsman of the past who utilized the "dizeme" technique through an emphasis on structures that are 300 years old. These examples are some of the most unique to be found in the Western Black Sea region. This craft has been passed down from generation to generation. Now only a few old and tired practitioners are left and they reveal to the camera their anti-earthquake construction techniques. The average age of the craftsmen is 80 years old.

On a NYC subway in December 1984, 36-year-old Bernhard Goetz shot four black teenagers he believed were about to mug him. The incident immediately set off a national debate about crime, race relations, vigilantism and the right to self-defense. The inner mindset of Goetz himself, presented primarily through his unapologetic videotaped statement to police, is the main focal point of the film.

Writes Kuchar: "It's New York in the summer and I set out to track down some high school friends who have burrowed deep into the 'big apple.' The viewer gets to see how far they've eaten their way to the core in this 45-minute study of urban denizens in the grip of Newtonian damnation." Here, Kuchar visits his mother in the Bronx, chats and eats with old friends in their claustrophobic New York apartments, and muses about friendship, growing older, and a time when the "streets of New York were cleaner, and so was I."

This film by ‘Shalhin Productions – Children’s Educational Films’ features the stories of the students and teachers at Rishon LeZion’s Rosen School (just outside Tel Aviv), through which it tackles a range of educational hot topics. The children grapple with violence and bullying incidents in the schoolyard, a spate of thefts in the classroom, personal labels and stigmas, and the immense challenge of shaking those off, and concepts such as friendship and respect. Ben and Nimrod, who fail to offer their seats to an elderly woman at the bus stop, are given an educational ‘punishment’ in the form of having to go to the woman’s home and keep her company; Yael, meanwhile, must come to terms with her parents’ divorce; whereas Ronen, whose dad had recently been sacked from his job, befriends a pair of young thugs who start showering him with gifts – all of which are stolen.

This is an animated work created using sand. We built our own multi-plane shooting table and adjusted the transmitted and reflected light using a lighting controller. This was done to blend the differences in the texture of the sand expressed by the lighting. Additionally, we utilized the sand's unpredictable nature - how it disappears without notice and reappears when touched - to create accidental images by vibrating the sand around the platform where it was placed. These images included motifs of human conversation, living creatures, life, the afterlife, and the universe. We moved these images through metamorphosis, like a game of word association.

The morning after. The landscape, the environment, leftovers from breakfast, the man. Bruckner´s pathos - all of that upon a rough surface. A woman´s voice says: "ohh - ob - O.B. - ob er..? - Ober - Oberflächen! - Oberfächen-Kontakt... ("Ohh - if - O.B. - if he..? supreme - surfaces! - superficial contact.."), after having previously spelled out the letters, O.B.E.R.F.L.Ä.C.H.E.N. The original material consisted of a S-8 film. It was projected onto the palm of my hand and refilmed with a 16mm camera. The hand is being closed at the end of the film - it opens again at the words "Oberflächen-Kontakt" (superficial contact); frames of film fall out. The surfaces have touched one another but the contact has been superficial. Film on the palm, the touch of an image. To place something in your hand, to feel it, to handle it. The result is part of the whole - single images, splinters of film and thought. O.k., that is the way it is. (Moucle Blackout)

Three By Three portrays three people in search of their own identity by playing on two levels of consciousness and intertwining reality and illusion. Ricardo, a Cuban gay refugee and his two American friends Sharon and Wes, express themselves through video taped documents which are juxtaposed with dramatized sequences based on their own experiences. The film imposes upon them circumstances which force them to deal with their contrasting backgrounds, their different prejudices and attitudes, their predetermined role in society, their relationship to one another and the reality of an uncertain future.
