A lively classroom discussion starter, this animated film uses satirical humor to present some of the difficulties graduating students may encounter when looking for work. The film tells of two young people whose career ambitions seem constantly to be thwarted. Their scramble to make a living leads both of them through a succession of odd jobs and, by a strange twist of fate, to a remote lumbering camp. In following their picaresque adventures, the film explores the attitudes needed for surviving in an uncertain world and promotes reflection on how to bridge the gap between ideals and reality.

The dramatic and scandalous life of the variously renowned and reviled poet, screenwriter and film director Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975) is reportedly poorly served in this highly allegorical and intellectual film which focuses rather more on his poetic and intellectual contributions to Italian Marxism than anyone except a highly intellectual Italian Marxist could possibly want to know. This is hardly surprising, given that the neophyte director of this film has a day job as an assistant professor of "the sociology of conscience." Pasolini, who at one point was convicted of the crime of "offending the religion of the (Italian) state" (Catholicism), later received the Grand Prize from the Catholic Film Office for his straightforward and stunning film of Il Vangelo Secundo Matteo (The Gospel According to St. Matthew).

Since 1915, the French satirical newspaper Le Canard Enchaîné has maintained and even strengthened its position in the press, without losing any of its wit or bite. This multi-part documentary recounts the history (53 min.) of the newspaper, when Maurice Maréchal decided to fight against the propaganda of the mainstream press, beholden to lobbies and the powerful. It features portraits (45 min.) of some of the newspaper's journalists and cartoonists. Its traditions (34 min.) are deeply rooted and faithfully upheld in the spirit of irreverence, insolence, and freedom in the face of all forms of power. The documentary also delves into the scandals (40 min.): if "Le Canard" was able to launch investigative journalism in France, it is because it has remained "free, independent, and clean," as its founder intended, thus retaining the trust of its readers.
