By observing their current lives, they provoke them to confide their plans, dreams, disappointments, to evaluate their achievements so far, and to talk about the future. Black-and-white photographs with blurred contours recall a carefree childhood and youth—crazy games during recess, chasing each other across fields and meadows. A confrontation between youthful dreams and ideas about adult life and the vision of the world after crossing the threshold of maturity.

The light of a flame used by Jewish mystics as a source of contemplation is transposed by Gorewitz into a collage of ominous, erupting images. Juxtaposing scenes of urban decay with pastoral landscapes, he ultimately transforms the screen into a burnished, glowing icon that echoes the ritual's origin.

Frames like de Bruyn's other recent effort Cha-Hit (1986) is an overwhelming film constantly in motion, blitzing its audience with abstract visuals. The film is a mixture of flickery, Letraset, light, scratching and hand-drawn colours. So rapid is the movement that it makes you wonder at times if you are looking at an image or its afterimage. Could a film like Frames be damaging to your retina or neurological functions? If you sat in front of this type of film long enough, would it send you on a trip? Could it awaken a patient out of a coma? After a confronting seven minutes I felt exhausted and slightly frazzled, such is the power of the film. A Dirk de Bruyn retrospective would certainly kill me. -Glen Hannah

Premiered in 1733, Pergolesi's La Serva Pedrona is a Major event in the history of opera. Due to the lightheatedness of the plot and the ordinariness of the characters – not to say their coarseness – La Serva Pedrona launched what is known today as "the Quarrel of the Comic Actors" ("la Querelle des Bouffons" in French), a quarrel that brought into conflict the advocates of the French tradition against the proponents of the Italian music, the latter gathered behing the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau. If what they were fighting about seems trifling to the modern observer, the quarrel occasioned fierce reactions wavering between jingoistic arguements and unjustified critics of the French style. Be that as it may, La Serva Pedrona is a masterpiece, all the more so with the charmismatic Donato Di Stefano in the role of Uberto and the delightfull Patrizia Biccirè giving life to the mischievous Serpina.

He takes us to canine beauticians and beauty contests, and explores the field from dried dog food to advanced super-duper pooper-scoopers. By showing in great detail all those gadgets and gimmicks to make the lives of pets as agreeable as possible, Moullet vents his barely concealed criticism of consumer society.

A girl finds a puddle of water on the street after the rain. And what does the girl make when she brings back pieces of mirrors scattered on the beach? This work beautifully visualizes the changing privacy of a girl's season as a fairy tale of a mirror and a girl's interaction. The seemingly trite material of a mirror is beautifully handled in a strikingly bold leap of the image, and combined with the sweetness of the girl's gestures, creates a world overflowing with a sense of transparency.

The film examines the relationships of single fathers with their children after separation or divorce.

This documentary tells the mythical story of the Chichonal hill, known by the natives as Piowachuwe (Burning Old Lady). It shows scenes of the celebration of the carnival in two villages which disappeared completely with the eruption of the volcano. It also brings together eloquent scenes of the eruptions and dramatic testimonies of those affected by the disaster.
