Cinematic Era: 1985 Vintage

Vannu Kandu Keezhadakki is the story of Padmavathy Amma (Lakshmi) who is the doyen of her family and society. Her view of the world is disliked by all, nevertheless questioned by none due to the tyrant that she can turn out to be. Her husband, Mangalath Viswanatha Menon, a retired business tycoon, portrayed by MG Soman, her 4 sons - Lalu Alex,Maniyanpilla Raju, Shankar and Baiju - find it ostensibly difficult to communicate how they feel. Her second son gets married to Sreedevi (Rajalakshmi) and that brings home her sister, Nadiya Moithu , who is a loud spoiled brat who uses utmost irreverence to deal with growing up to be an adult.

This downbeat, grim drama about three brothers who are reunited at their mother's funeral is actually visually as dark as its story, making it difficult at times to clearly distinguish a scene. These brothers are not particularly exceptional as people go, but at least they have branched out into separate vocations in their lives. One brother is a doctor, another is a criminal, and the third is a bus driver. Like others in Europe, they suffered through World War II, yet no matter what their backgrounds and experiences, their interpersonal relationships are not exactly gripping drama.

In order to get wealthy quickly both Bhima and Bunty decide to rob Gomango - and set off a chain of events that will endanger and change their lives forever.

Iwan decides to quit school and Miftah manages to record him. Dance is furious when he hears that Iwan is making a record. He approaches the producer and destroys the recording tape. Then Dance gets arrested for narcotics while Iwan’s record is a major hit, so he brings his siblings home from the orphanage.

Members want to back away from that level of dangerous dealing, but Hans wants to go for broke -- a difficult decision that will determine the young con's future.

The film's shocking message is reinforced by its formal aspects. The villagers who managed to survive talk about the tragedy today in the form of a prayer, begging God to remember those who were murdered. They list their names, first names, and the circumstances in which they died - tortured, tormented, burned in a barn. "There were 203 of them, remember... So remember Meier... Find him, wherever he is hiding... and bring him to justice..." The mournfully black screen is only partially filled with shots of people praying and photos of the murdered.

On January 13th 1985, Midnight Oil performed the Oils on the Water concert on Goat Island, Sydney, to celebrate radio Triple-J's tenth birthday, before a select crowd of 400 (half competition winners and half staff, media and friends, though other fans swam across). The concert was simulcast live on ABC TV and Triple J radio, released on video, then later remastered as part of the 2004 Best of Both Worlds DVD set. Oils on the Water was a classic Midnight Oil performance and setting with the band in fine high-energy form, caught in the light of the setting sun, against the backdrop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
