From 1928 to 1943, Haus Vaterland was a large restaurant and entertainment palace in Berlin on Potsdamer Platz, originally run by Kempinksi, with around one million visitors per year, which can be regarded as the forerunner of today's event gastronomy. In the guest rooms there were a variety of theme restaurants, including the Palmensaal, a dance hall, where in addition to musical and artistic events, demonstrations and variety programs. The visitors of Haus Vaterland were mainly tourists from outside Berlin.

Narasinga Rao’s debut is an existential melodrama with the director playing a romantic painter, Ravi, whose friends include a trade union leader (Kakarala), an autorickshaw driver, a Marxist journalist (Narayana Rao) and a glib, successful painter (Saichand) whose success contrasts with Ravi’s inability to sell his own work. His neighbour Kankamma, who rejects an evil landlord’s advances, is evicted from her house; the trade unionist is killed in police custody; and Ravi starts exhibiting his work on the streets to indicate his growing politicisation to the satisfaction of his Marxist friend. The film is geared to the CPI(ML)-led political movements in Northern AP and included the compositions and songs of the region’s best-known radical poet and performer, Gaddar.

Recording from a window to suggest a vantage point of surveillance, Miller positions the viewer as a voyeur when she documents the interaction of people and policemen on the Skid Row street below. A harsh, "scratch" aural collage heightens the sense of confrontation and aggression. A lush, dramatic orchestration accompanies the second sequence, an evocative night drive through the streets of Los Angeles. This passage is blocked by the presence of a police car, which Miller transforms into an abstracted dance of lights. The thwarting of mobility by authority becomes a metaphor of social confinement.

One afternoon in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, 18-year-old Philippe meets 16-year-old Frédéric. Their eyes meet, they talk and decide to spend a sensemble weekend in Deauville. But it's not that easy to get to know each other. From surprises to concessions, this weekend teaches them how difficult it is to understand each other and not waste the pleasures that come our way; and that sometimes, at the end of the day, we'd like to do the trip all over again, in reverse.
