He is very independent and rarely asks for help from his teachers. Like all orphans, Almaz dreams of his parents suddenly appearing in his life. One day, when he meets a woman in a cemetery who is mourning her son, Almaz befriends her and helps her cope with her grief.

An invisible woman recites an interior monologue. She speaks about what she sees when flipping through different channels on TV, and what she reads when browsing through a magazine. She blends these distracted descriptions of media with thoughts on a past romantic experience and the possibility of a relationship with a new acquaintance. On screen, we see shots of a TV set surrounded by a dark room. The channel is frequently switched; the images on screen sometimes complement the woman's story and sometimes expand it in unexpected directions. Shots of a young man (played by the artist) turning towards the camera and pointing a gun towards the viewer are interspersed with the collage of TV clips.

Mexican feature film

Within the soundscape of an anonymous station, only two black spots in motion suggest the bearing of two people. On a white screen gradually appear irregular dark shades which only later can be identified as clothes, dressed on virtually invisible woman and man. The aesthetic effect is conducted by over-exposure of the light tones (white walls and faces), letting only the dark clothes to signify human presence. The intimacy between a man and a woman is not overexposed by the act of undressing. In contrast, it is slightly implied by the gestures of dressing followed by fondly kissing for good bye and parting. Both silhouettes disappear, leaving the frame in different directions. Their closeness diffuses in the sound of of the station hall and strangers' voice…

The interrogator who’s been impressed by the culprit, tries to get him back to life and since he doesn’t succeed in doing so, he goes mad.

David Hockney is unquestionably one of the most passionate and versatile experimental artists on the contemporary scene. In the late 1970s the British artist developed a pioneering concept which also changed his perspective on painting – his “joiners”. In this film, the artist himself talks about this photographic approach, a kind of Cubism-inspired photocollage which explores the space-time continuum. Hockney allows the viewer to share in the creative “joiner” process and leads us step by step into the universe of his artistic creativity.
