Scratched lines and shapes bloat around this footage of an unknown businessman, sometimes forming hats, clown noses, arrows, etc. He becomes a kind of pawn in my cruel little game. Sound is a musicbox which helps lift this once painfully boring footage to the level of high art. –H. M.

This documentary examines the re-settlement of South-East Asian refugees in the United States in the aftermath of the Vietnam War. The film begins with a montage of riveting footage depicting the devastating effects of the war. It then unveils the mixed reception given Vietnamese refugees in the United States, from battles with local fishermen in Monterey, California, to conflicts in Philadelphia where their arrival in the city's poorest neighborhoods kindled resentment in the Black community. The film also explores their struggle to cope with life in the U.S. and maintain their identity.

Monologue created and performed by Spalding Gray, who takes us through his childhood recollections of growing up in a Christian Science household in Barrington, Rhode Island, in the 1950s.

Yun-Shik saves a whore Na-Bi with hope and love and waits for her baby birth though it is not his. Na-Bi's old lover Park Wu-Cheol, in collusion with Yun-Shik's lover Ha-Young harasses them. Na-Bi leaves Yun-Shik and returns to the life of prostitute in order to bring up her baby, and Yun-Shik gets sickness while he is knocking about here and there in search of her. One day, Na-Bi tries to wait on a guest with her baby, and because of it, is kicked out in cold winter. She goes to Yun-Shik to let the baby continue living, but Yun-Shik has already died and his funeral is on processing. It only makes Na-Bi sadder.

Among the shadows of the darkest streets, there are bodies that dance and others that wound each other. In this piece, Villaverde intertwines these two nocturnal worlds, populated by fights, death, and trouble, as if in a dance. Tacón is based on a text by Jorge Luis Borges that reflects on tango and, with the poetry of its words, traces a reflection on the passage of time and death. Borges gave several lectures on tango in his native Buenos Aires. The genre fascinated him, as it was a portal to the dark and violent Buenos Aires that had so inspired his verses and prose. A prevailing darkness and tension pervade the visual vision of Tacón, accentuated, also, by the music of the Argentinian Astor Piazzolla.

The winter is getting on. An impecunious couple hires the old man who is supposed to cut and pile up the firewood for them. In the evening the old man promises the couple to continue his work in the morning. But the next day the old man does not appear for work. Neither does he come for work during the following days. After some time a boy comes up to the frustrated couple and tells them about his grandfather’s death. He also says that before he died, the grandfather told the boy not to disgrace the family and finish the job.
