Taking its title from the sea nymphs in Homer’s Odyssey—the treacherous spirits whose sweet voices lured sailors to their death upon the rocks—Sirens presents four hallucinatory scenes, visual puns authored by a mischievous agent. Mocking laughter that shatters the illusion and causes viewers to doubt the assumptions implicit in their viewing disrupts stills of what seem to be unpopulated landscapes.

The film was shot at the Osanbashi Pier in Yokohama and then re-shot on a matte. The mattes were changed so that parts of the landscape were partially visible and partially hidden, and the projector lens was left open and closed to create a random effect. When the film reached the end, I rewound it, replaced the matte, and shot again. I repeated this process. It was a six-fold exposure with five mattes and a mask. I created this with the image in mind of a clear shape passing through an unclear screen that is sometimes visible and sometimes not, tracing the perspective.

In his review at its release, Daryl Chin noted “Dienes' wit, humor, and resilience serves as an appropriate example to women artists in any field; her boundless invention as manifested in her collages and assemblages and constructions is a heartening index.”

In 1977, José Ernesto Díaz-Noriega made a humorous and iconoclastic soundtrack version of Nosferatu, entitled 'Manuscript Found in Zarazwela' or 'Nos fera tu la pugnete'. Using a copy of the English version in Super 8, and "observing the curious coincidence of the fiction told in the film with history", Díaz Noriega adapted the vampire plot to the years of the Spanish Transition, turning Arias Navarro into Draculas Navarro, Juan Carlos de Borbón into Jonathan Carolus (prince of Franconia) and Santiago Carrillo into Jacobus Carrillus. The original Transylvania becomes Galicia and the Pazo de Meirás becomes the vampire's castle. All of Murnau's characters find an equivalence in the political actors of the Transition.

The passenger enjoys herself in a parade of trees, even risking taking root there. The passengers of a boat, swept by a loving gaze, appear in sequence from image to image.
