Cinematic Era: 1974 Vintage

Nestler highlights visits by several German entrepreneurs to oil facilities. In the 1970s, Peter and his wife, Zsóka Nestler, collaborated on a series of educational films for television that focused on craft-making. These “biographies of objects” are rigorous investigations into the history of working techniques, production processes, and materials.

Thwarted many times in their quest for independence, the Vietnamese independence movement led by Ho Chi Minh finally decisively defeated Vietnam's French colonial overlords at Dien Bien Phu in May of 1954. This documentary uses interviews and newsreel footage to examine the conflict between the French and the Vietnamese. In addition to Vietnam, French Indochina also included Cambodia and Laos. The French-Indochina War lasted from 1946 to 1956, when a Geneva Conference agreement mandated a cease-fire in a temporarily divided Vietnam. It is well to note that it is only after this time that the two Vietnams went to war against each other.

Florence Mayfield, an elderly lifelong resident of East Dallas, reminisces about the neighborhood and the many changes it has seen during her lifetime.

The people of Yazd are harassed by Qasim the extortionist, until Habib and Tahir force Qasim to change his ways. One night, Habib meets Shirin, Qasim's friend, in a notorious neighborhood and offers to marry her if she repents. Habib takes Shirin to Mashhad and gives his sister Maryam to Tahir. Qasim, who holds a grudge against Tahir, insults Maryam. The local baker, who witnesses the incident, remains silent, and Tahir marries Maryam to protect his reputation and that of his friend. Qasim's henchmen spread the rumor that Tahir married her after deceiving Maryam. They lock him in a room to silence the baker. Habib returns to Yazd with the intention of taking revenge; But the local confidants force him and Taher to face each other in the depths of the fort to prevent bloodshed. Before the fight begins, the baker escapes with a wounded body and, with Shirin's help, makes his way to the fort and reveals the truth. Habib and Taher go after Qasim and eventually hand him over to the police.

Sausage City illustrates Beckett's additive cycle process. Constantly evolving rectangular shapes provide a foundation for an environment inhabited by mutating blobs - or sausages. Sounds and shapes create a moving space that teeters on the edge between control and chaos. The ending is somewhat mystifying, pulling us out of the surreal environment and revealing its origins. Preserved by the Academy Film Archive in 2007.

An affectionate and humorous portrayal of the relationship between a woman and her dog. As the dog explores the world and meets other dogs on their many walks together, the film shakes and mirrors the excitement and chaos of a dog's life. Many of these scenes are repeated and reprinted, lending a distinct rhythm of image and color to the edit. At other times, the focus falls on intimate moments shared between the dog and the woman, with emphasis on touch and comfort. The film concludes with the dog giving birth to a litter of puppies and her own subsequent relationship to her offspring. Exact date of production is unknown.

This story of a Soviet soldier who was killed during the liberation of Prague in May 1945 combines Zdenek Seydl's animated drawings with documentary footage by war correspondents.

Cut-out puppet animation. Not recommended for gentle sensibilities.

How young people were manipulated to join the war during the Imperial Era.

Negative image is shot from a small rear-projection screen, the film comes out of the camera continuously (in the dark room) and is immediately processed, dried, and projected on the screen.

Cycles brings together 16mm film with Stephen Beck’s Direct Video Synthesizer imagery via a proprietary process Beck referred to as “editation.” Beck also composed the soundtrack to the film, which is made of one sequence repeated 12 times, with both artists contributing variations on each pass.

Footsteps is in the manner of a game re-enacted, the game in making was between the camera and actor,the actor and cameraman, and one hundred feet of film. The film became expanded into positive and negative to change balances within it; black for perspective, then black to shadow the screen and make paradoxes with the idea of acting, and the act of seeing the screen. The music sets a mood then turns a space, remembers the positive then silences the flatness of the negative.

Festive experimental animation

In a world where communication has grown into big business, the lack of it between individuals is almost a paradox. We live in tight little compartments that are not easily penetrated. Individual differences are regarded with suspicion or scorn. This animated film parodies the human condition in a few quick, colourful sketches, amusingly, without words, yet leaving food for thought.

This story tells how the little Mole's favourite record got broken and how his friends, birds and mice, helped him to find a new one.

In this documentary, the members of the University of British Columbia's Thunderbirds hockey team travel to China to demonstrate their skills to the new teams in the East. While hockey there still has a long way to go, this film leaves no doubt that the Chinese players are up to the challenge. A film propelled by discoveries, it goes a long way to providing insight into the differences between East and West.

The film is about the period of large-scale construction of multi-story buildings in Vladikavkaz, the work of trusts, and their competition. On the construction sites, dynasties of craftsmen worked, and the youth learned from the experience of the older generations.

The film tries to make sense of the role of women in 1970s Estonia. The activities of men and women in different spheres of life are compared, the woman as a mother, caregiver and worker is examined, as well as the woman's aspirations for beauty and goodness.

A community video made by Tom Zubrycki and the residents of Balmain and Rozelle that documents concerns held by residents and local businesses about the impact of an existing port terminal on their community. Residents give their perspectives on the issues of noise, pollution and safety which arise from trucks laden with shipping containers rolling down Mort Street, Balmain towards the terminal. The community’s protests and lobbying efforts are also recorded.
