The visual ‘documentary’ material in House Movie comprises essentially ‘home movie’ footage. While the great majority of this material was staged, re-enacted, or otherwise planned in advance, it is documentary inasmuch as the ‘actors’ play themselves and participate in familiar events in a familiar setting which does not represent, but is, their actuality. Taking into consideration the film’s musical form, it might be said that in terms of documentary, House Movie is an exaggeration of John Grierson’s definition.

The film relates the beliefs the author held for a certain time concerning water and diving into it. It all begins with a dive and with a whirlpool that never existed; two visual prototypes on the basis of which the mischievous view of the author created a filmic inversion of water and its flow, of the diver and of the imaginary whirlpools. This expansion, unforeseen in spontaneous natural phenomena is, however, foreseen by the very little spontaneous nature of the diver, who, after repeated efforts, ends by realizing a plunge which is at once fatal and desired.

“Lines and rectangles are the geometric shapes basic to ENIGMA, a computer graphics film full of subliminal and persistent image effects. In a staccato rhythm, the film builds to a climax by instantly replacing one set of shapes with another, each set either changing in composition and color or remaining for a moment to vibrate strobiscopically and then change.” – The Booklist.

The film tells the story of the martyrdom of the adherents of the secret anti-Nazi organization " The White Rose ", shows the action carried out by the Scholl brothers in Munich while secretly printing the leaflets and distributing them to the University; however, they are discovered by the rector who denounces them to the Gestapo and let themselves be arrested without any resistance. The original footage, which shows the actions of the students against Nazism, alternates scenes in which a group of young people today discuss the images seen, but not limited to this: they reconstruct the facts, research and interview the witnesses of the time, in particular a doctor from Bologna, who was involved in the Scholl case and had to flee to Italy, where he joined a partisan organization towards the end of the war.

By using simple systems of counting and measuring in film, Iimura has drawn attention to the complexities of our time perception – memory, rhythm, phase – and the interaction between coucious conception of time, and the physical perception of its passing. Iimura is a significant and singular filmmaker, but also one of the most important 'conceptual' artist working in any medium. – Malcolm Le Grice, Time Out, April 1975, London

"Sky Blue Water Light Sign is best seen in total innocence. My guess is that if one knows what he or she is looking at before seeing this little film, half of its excitement and a good deal of its meaning disappears. Seen in total innocence, though (and maybe I’m exaggerating the importance of this), SKY BLUE WATER is a wonder. With Gottheim’s Blues and Frampton’s Lemon (for Robert Hunt), it is one of the happiest, most uplifting short films I’ve ever seen.” – Scott MacDonald, Idiolects" -- Scott MacDonald, Idiolects. In a sly twist on the methodology of the 18th-century "philosophes" who classified the laws and history of the world in massive encyclopedias, Baldessari devises and then subverts his own system for cataloguing the world. In a matter-of-fact tone, he states that he is going to present a precise, methodical inventory of objects, progressing from small to large in size. Drawing on his own collection of found objects, he exhibits and describes a seemingly arbitrary series of over thirty disparate items. By undermining the viewer's empirical perception, video ultimately is proven to be a flawed medium for the indexing and classification of the world.
