Ancientry is an early film by Paul de Mol. He films a vase that is on the edge of a pond in a park. While filming, Mole makes frequent use of the ‘single frame shot’ – an extremely short shot that consists of only of one frame, which is the building block of film. Occasionally the bombardment of images makes way for a longer shot, which enhances the contrast and gives the viewer a moment of rest.

In Section II we see a series of discrete sequences showing the children, now somewhat older, in different types of play. They manipulate tiny objects, doll furniture and miniature figures, dress up in costume, play outdoors, watch TV. We see them eating, sleeping, crying . . . A repeated image in this section, used both alone and in superimposition, is a moving, glittery golden dazzle which resembles tinselly pinpoints of light. There are golden dazzle images that look more like small bubbles than pinpoints. These glitter images, along with the occasional solid color frames, are recurrent threads connecting the separate sequences of this section. (Artforum)

Oscar nominated short cartoon from 1969. A shepherd, who wants to be left alone to pursue his career, finally faces the reality that there are no jobs for shepherds. He sends his sheep to the country and takes a correspondence course to train for a new career.

The animation takes us into the room of a lonely man, whose reality is filled by books, pictures and various bibelots. His time is measured by sunrise and sunset, and the only escape are dreams about heroic adventures. The problem is, that's where it ends. The protagonist can only dream, yet his life doesn't change at all.

The film is a historical document, as it is the only documentary film that depicted the recent flood of the Nile before the construction of the High Dam from its sources to its estuary in the context of an epic story from the date of the building of the pyramids and the Temple of Abu Simbel until the construction of the dam.

Smith's third feature film was originally titled "The Kidnapping of Wendell Willkie by the Love Bandit," in reaction to the 1968 Presidential Campaign. It mixes B&W footage of Smith's creatures with old campaign footage of Willkie, a liberal Republican who ran against FDR in the 1940's. The climax of the work appears to be the "auctioning" of the presidential candidate at a convention.
