The first festival was held in Dakar on 1-24 April 1966. All the arts were represented: literature, music, dance, film and visual arts.

A group of girls traveling to Istanbul by train begin exploring the Bosphorus accompanied by their teacher, Ms. Vildan. During this extremely enjoyable trip, they are joined by another group of young city dwellers. The pleasant time comes to an end with a maritime accident. However, a passionate love affair begins between Mine, who falls into the sea, and the handsome Tarık, who rescues her. Mine, who escapes from the train by making a call and decides to stay in Istanbul with her lover, has not accounted for one thing: her wealthy father, who is one of the Anatolian landlords and is now pursuing her.

Four young men re-locate from a village in India, to a big city. While attempting to access accomodation, they are repeatedly told that rooms will only be rented to married couples, not to bachelors. Frustrated at this, two of them disguise themselves as women, and pose as wives for the other two males. They are able to secure accomodation with the Mishra family. Complications arise when the two "women" fall in love with Mishra's two lovely daughters - with results that can only be described as hilarious.

The documentary, awarded at the 1967 Tourfilm Competition in Warsaw, gives up irony or big-city paternalism, presenting the characters with sympathy and warmth.

Based on themes from Latvian folk tales, Cock-a-doodle-doo! tells of how a rich man steals a magic mill from a poor farmer. Eventually the farmer wins back the mill with the help of two loyal friends – a dog and a rooster. The first stop-motion animation film by the Riga Motion Picture Studio, created by four professional puppeteers from the Latvian Puppet Theatre and directed by Arnolds Burovs. The film constituted a successful beginning for a stable and long-standing tradition and is evidence of the intuitive skills of the filmmaker required for stop-motion animation, namely, the ability to work with precision and economy of expression.

The film is based on a real-life incident of horrendous horse mutilations that occurred in Davie, Florida in the early 1960s. It takes a fictionalized approach to the residents attempting to solve the mystery of who is committing the crime. This film is considered lost after the negatives were stolen from the director.

When Imeda’s father is killed in a blood revenge accident, the family moves him to the city where he is sheltered at his father’s friend. After fifteen year he gets back to Khevsureti. A talented painter, he spends most of his time doing sketches of nature and people. There he meets a local beauty, Mzekala and fells in love with her but finds out that Torghva is also in love with her. Enraged by Imeda’s impudence Torghva calls him for a sword fight and is killed by Imeda. To avoid another round of blood revenge, the villagers let Imeda and Mzekala out of the village but someone who wants Imeda’s blood finds it out and follows them.

Two rival brothers vie for the same woman against the backdrop of peasant revolts in their Greek homeland. In Thessaly in 1907, a man incites the poor farmers to take over the land they work for the benefit of the landowners. Odysseus (Nikos Kourkoulos), the son of one such landowner (Manos Katrakis), refuses to clash with the farmers.

Magdaléna, pure-hearted and guided by emotion, attracts Zápotočný, a callous egoist and abuser. Their turbulent relationship, set against a backdrop of social hardship, forces Magdaléna to confront the limits of compassion and the price of innocence when faced with brutal selfishness.
