Cinematic Era: 1965 Vintage

Designed to encourage citizen activism, this film centers on a one-man crusade to combat community indifference to urban blight. Ruing the litter, vermin and substandard housing conditions prevalent in his New York City neighborhood at 24th Street and Second Avenue, David started to pick up trash from city streets and went from building to building documenting health violations. Gaining support from the Department of Sanitation, he then enlisted the aid of tenants and their children and helped form the Improvement Association of the East Twenties. Through the organization's efforts, the streets were cleaned, buildings were given a fresh coat of paint and abandoned cars removed. To celebrate the neighborhood's revitalization, tenants, clergy and city officials, including Congressman John V. Lindsay, participated in a tree planting ceremony.

Some even cultivate barley in fields with a slope of 40 degrees. People have to live to the rythm of the seasons and to the pace of the water cycles. Whatever happens, their hearts are inextricably linked to the mountains.

On Sunday morning, a peasant secures his farm and runs away from the village. A crowd of tourists gets off the train. Sunday in the countryside will be full of noise and rubbish. In the end, everything will be consumed by fire.

A poet recites his verses. The people who listen to him, inspired by him, form the Spring Party, which later becomes the Spring Army. It is decided to eliminate possible opponents. The poet is considered an enemy and is shot.

In the prologue of Excursion:Opus 2, the camera sweeps over nearly unidentifiable details on a sleeping man’s body, mixed with discontinuous images of the morning routines of two people and their preparation for an excursion. Subtle sounds of wind blowing are combined with squalling, inarticulate sounds of birds and frogs. The couple cycle through a dense forest, climb amongst ferns, and kiss to a soundtrack of classical music (without being overtly obvious or romantic) layered with birdsong, which gradually distorts into more psychedelic and frightening noise. Close-ups of the romantic couple, camera shots that follow the cyclists’ rush through the woods, and the couple struggling through the dense and almost unreal vegetation of bush and tangled pine, are woven together in an intense montage of dream-like and unworldly atmosphere.

The film proves that the apparently ideally and extremely purposefully coordinated relationships between flowers and the insects that pollinate them are nothing other than the result of a very long period of natural selection and mutual adaptation. Phenomena that contradict the preservation of the species must die off. The example of the bee and the red clover illustrates that contradictory relationships can be cultivated artificially.

The first in a series of five films covering the construction of the London Underground's new 'Victoria' Line. This was to be BTF's largest single project in terms of quantity of footage that was shot. These reports examine in depth the work involved in this great engineering project. As they are of a technical nature, they were only available for showing to suitable audiences. This particular film describes the route of the new line, the planning and the problems which had to be overcome.

The newest Southern electrified route, London-Southampton-Bournemouth, is the subject of this film. After a glimpse of the old days of steam, we follow travellers of all kinds as they experience the pleasures of travel which is clean, quiet, fast and frequent.

Comics, monsters and a zombified Keen are gently desecrated in this paint-flecked film that also features a picture of Jackie Keen crying heart-shaped tears.

The observations of teachers and students at the Stuttgart evening school poses the question of whether everyone has the same education opportunities. Out of the 200 night-school students who start out, only 17 reach their aim: Graduation from school, which is the entry ticket to university and possibly the key to happiness later.
