In a scuffle she caused, her sister was killed by thugs. The gypsies' wagons are destroyed and the few survivors, including Esteban and his mother, are forced to flee. Carmencita becomes the governor's wife and Esteban a bandit who steals Spanish wheat and gold to give to the people. On Carmencita's whim, Esteban's mother, arrested and accused of witchcraft, dies. Esteban continues his life as a bandit and becomes the terrible Unnamed, who will finally reach his conversion thanks to Lucia and Cardinal Federico.

"It's a mixture of [dead] animals, pieces of [broken] furniture, industrial waste, kids playing. I didn't have in mind any of the kind of historical perspective, nor was I trying to make an ecological statement. I was showing the new landscape of our civilization. My point of view was animistic. Originally a pilot for a series called "Gallaway House" that was never picked up. The patrons of a late-19th Century America theater flock to see the latest production, a Western tale of redemption. Johnny Laredo, a middle-aged gunfighter fleeing his many enemies by traveling at night, stops briefly at the campfire of Tim Dawson's team of cattle drivers for a cup of coffee and a bit of human companionship. Dawson offers Laredo a job, but Laredo is afraid to return to Wyoming where he killed a number of men. Stopping in a small Texas town for supplies before heading across the Mexican border, the gunfighter is forced to fight a inexperienced youngster trying to make a reputation and kills him. Even though he is acquitted, the gunfighter has had enough and returns to Dawson, accepts the job, and hopefully, the opportunity for redemption.

But the junior tengku-tengku are too much to handle for Marhani’s sister.

Susanne, however, comes up with an idea and lets him work in the circus arena where he is supposed to check on the arithmetic problems of a numerate donkey. When Peter fails to control the donkey, he feels deeply ashamed and has to assess that math is needed in all parts of life.
