Part of the March of Time series, this edition (Volume 10, Number 1) from 1945 deals with the issue of Palestine. With World War II at an end, the issue of Jewish migration to the region was again at the forefront. Great Britain was mandated to keep the peace in Palestine and had as far back as 1917 pledged to support a homeland in the region for the Jewish people. At the time, Arabs outnumbered Jews by approximately 2 to 1 but in many areas, the half-million Jews made great strides in turning a desert into a garden with agriculture a mainstay.

This Ford Motor Company promotional film describes its huge aircraft factory at Willow Run, east of Ypsilanti, Michigan. The plant made B-24 Liberator heavy bombers during World War II. At peak capacity, one four-engine B-24 rolled out the door every 55 minutes. The plant combined parts fabrication with final assembly under one roof, and employed up to 42,000 workers. This film also provides a detailed description of each stage of construction of a B-24, including parts manufacture, assembly, and flight test.

Dive Bombing Crashes (1945) is a Warner Brothers Cartoon made as a training film for US Navy pilots. The film warns pilots not to neglect observing their altimeters during bombing dives.

Made by the highly influential Russian cameraman Roman Karmen, this documentary vividly features Albanian life immediately after the communists came to power in 1944. The film is especially memorable since it’s missing much of the heavy socialist realism that marked Albanian doc making. Shortly after he completed the film, Karmen set off for Berlin to shoot the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.
