A stook is a group of sheaves of grain stood on end in a field, which can be stacked in ingenious and skilful fashion, in barn or field, to preserve and maintain the nutritional value of the grain. Some of these substantial stacks are shaped like cottages, and the local thatcher is even brought in to complete the roof. Director Rosanne Hunter made at least six films, all in the 1940s, however little is known of her life and career.

Laundry soap brand Rinso was quick to jump on the 1940s fuel rationing bandwagon and remind housewives that, unlike other soaps, Rinso required very little hot water (it was customary to boil clothes at the time). This ingenious two-pronged marketing approach - bolster the war effort while increasing sales - was in keeping with the soap manufacturer's pioneering approach to advertising.

Marcel Ichac accompanied the mountaineer Armand Charlet, in 1943, in the repetition of the first crossing of the Aiguilles du Diable that the guide of the Chamonix valley had made in 1925. A roped party joined on snow and ice the Col du Géant, reached at the Mont-Blanc-du-Tacul stop and on the Col du Diable. The men cross the needles by climbing chimneys, cracks and abseiling walls. They access the eastern slope of the Mont-Blanc massif which offers a panorama of the Grandes Jorasses and Mont-Blanc. Armand Charlet was the first to reach the summits of four needles above 4000 meters: the Devil's Horn, Pointe Chaubert, Pointe Médiane and Pointe Carmen; he also tells how he successfully climbed the furthest, the Isolated. Marcel Ichac shot these scenes as close as possible to his subject, he responded with this film with a “truth” cinema, the principle of which we find in his later productions.

Meanwhile, Andy's seeds are vacuumed up by a rooster, which he attacks with a sickle. The rooster lands on the dog. The battle rages with everything in a heap. The garden is ruined... or is it? Part of the Imperial War Museum Collection. Produced by the Crown Film Unit for the Ministry of Defence and the Admiralty in 1943, Close Quarters is an authentic impression of a routine wartime Royal Navy submarine patrol in the North Sea, off the coast of Norway. At first the patrol is uneventful until HMS Tyrant comes across a U-boat. All the roles were performed by serving submariners (led by Lieutenant Commander Gregory) and much of the film was shot on a genuine British submarine which was still in service.
