The farmers on the Lohhof, the largest farm in the area, are well known all around and have the highest prestige amongst their peers, not the least, because they never suffer any shortage of water. When in times of drought the water everywhere else has dried into nothingness, the water on the Lohhof is abundant and fresh. But one very dry summer, the drought comes to the Lohhof, too, and this time, the source of the water has dried up. And so, with diving rod in hand, one of the farm's old peasants goes on his merry little way to find a new source of water. At one point, the diving rod bends so strongly, that it almost slips out of the old man's hands. Convinced that there must be a huge source of water nearby, all the farmers of the Lohhof bend their backs to find the new well. They dig long, but they dig in vain: no water is found, only a strange sand, which is yellowish, shiny and flickers golden in the sun.

A wagon train of settlers is approaching Prairieville and rancher Allen is out to stop them by having some of his men join the train and poison the horses. When Jack Cameron arrives in Prairieville with replacement horses, he learns his brother who was with the train has been murdered. A piece of his brother's clothing identifies a member of the gang and Jack sets out to find the rest of them and also deliver the horses.

They swim in the lake and go to a ball together, which leads to Mrs. Larsen coming in to talk to the bishop. After Marianne has returned to Copenhagen, the bishop announces his arrival at the rectory. Where will the priest now find the 2,000 kroons? The priest has a number of friends who are trying to help him, but he also receives unexpected help from the bishop.

All four now try to begin their independent existence together. Amalia is supposed to race in the next show, for Piesicke has already prophesized her victory. With the winnings, they're going to open a beer garden. But the horse ends up losing and is sold. With the money, Piesicke buys another horse and this one wins a bucket load of money in a race. Carroll and the other prisoners make their escape when a kidnapped juggling act sends their captors down in a barrage of beer bottles.
