Film shot in Estonia and Peru, on the occasion of the acquisition of the ships Almirante Guisse and Comandante Villar, at the initiative of Captain M. D. Faura, Naval Commissioner of Peru.

It contains: images of the patriotic celebration of February 20, 1933, on the occasion of the border conflict with Colombia.

January 1st.

On a trip to the Dutch Indies, a Dutch steamer calls at the harbour of Colombo. Shortly before the arrival of the ship at Batavia, a Chinese steward throws some packages out of a porthole. The packages are fished up by smugglers and taken to a lonely spot on the coast. From there the packages are transported by car to a dingy shanty. There the opium is packed in tins and eggshells and then sold to opium dens in Batavia. Two missionaries visit an opium den and hear from some of its inhabitants how and why they became addicted. A sick man explains that he uses opium to deaden his pain; another addict smokes the stuff to sharpen his wits. Particularly touching is the story of a young man who, some years earlier, was lured into the den by an attractive young girl who was an accomplice of the smugglers and who encouraged him to smoke opium in order to forget his sadness. The film ends with an appeal to the youth of the Dutch Indies to rid their country of de demon drug.

Picturesque Britain - as portrayed by the Travel and Industrial Development Association (TIDA) - looks delightful in this attractive short film. TIDA, an early version of Visit Britain, was designed to bring income to the UK from tourism, and made use of film for marketing purposes. A study of pickers at work on the hop harvest and the drawing of ale in an old English inn, the film shows a rural idyll that Britain was keen to promote.

The Wandering Jew tells the story of Arthur Levi (Jacob Ben-Ami), a German-Jewish artist who experiences the new German antisemitism when his masterpiece, a portrait of his Polish-born father entitled "The Eternal Wanderer" is rejected by the Berlin Academy of Art, which also asks his resignation as professor. Later in the film the figure in the painting comes to life and tells Levi the story of the persecution of the Jewish people. The film ends with footage of an anti-Hitler rally at New York City's Madison Square Garden and Levi's resolve to bear onward in the face of adversity.

A self proclaimed saga of oil, celebrating the speed and power of plane, trains, and automobiles. It starts with a look at a farm, beneath which is oil. Soon, farmland is dotted with derricks. It's on to a refinery. Then, shots of oil derricks, their pumps and pistons moving, are interspersed with images of men at work and machines in motion powered by oil. Horse-drawn carts are discarded. Modern wheels turn. The narration consists of title cards written in a grandiose and rhetorical style - the bones of yesterday become the blood of today.

On January 7, 1933, the National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands, the NSB, made its first public appearance at a national rally in Utrecht. Supporters marched through the streets and the public looked on. That public was quite boisterous and certainly not all pro-NSB.
