Cinematic Era: 1929 Vintage

The oldest surviving animated film from Brazil. The only animal in a zoo, a monkey, escapes its cage, causing a lot of trouble.

Events that took place in the capital of the Tajik SSR, the city of Dushanbe in 1929.

Snub was teamed with Jack Kearney as a pair of sailors on shore leave who keep running afoul of tough guy Gunboat Smith, ending in a slapstick fight. After Kearney knocks smith unconscious, the pair light cigarettes, but an open gas lamp next to them causes a huge explosion.

Are there any children who do not dream of long journeys?.. No. So Vasya, the hero of the movie, went on a journey, got tired on the way and fell asleep in the open air. And he dreams that he is a great traveler and has accomplished a number of feats... But, unfortunately, the world is not so perfect: a group of pioneer tourists accidentally accommodates Vasya, brings him home, and Vasya's "wanderings and feats" come to an end.

While George Herriman is credited as Kat's creator here, Krazy in this short bears little resemblance to the original comic strip character. In fact, instead of pining for Ignaz Mouse, this Kat is hunting American Indians, what we call Native Americans today, as he gets almost burned at the stake by them (it should be noted that the fire, like in many animated shorts made during this time, has a personality of his own here!).

In this one, a cat is cleaning a store carpet when he gets interrupted by a mouse. After they do a brief tap dance, a lady cat comes in which has the male cat already smitten.

Chorus girl Teena Johnson may be "hard-boiled," but she's no golddigger. Thus, when the father of her wealthy sweetheart Kyle Stannard tries to buy her off, Sally refuses the money. She sticks by Kyle even after he is disinherited and forced to go to work. The financial strain on the young couple's marriage eventually takes its toll, and before long they separate, with Sally returning to the chorus line to square her husband's debts.

Gerald Morely's father is ruined in a stock fraud and commits suicide. When shortly afterwards the man who perpetrated it is murdered, the evidence is framed so that Gerald appears guilty.

Lotte Wohlfahrt, the typist, is just like all the young women of the petty bourgeoisie of that era, who dream only of happiness, prosperity, and a nice young man.

Fast Freight is a 1929 Our Gang short silent comedy film. It was the 85th Our Gang short that was released. The gang takes a tramp's train ride and end up taking shelter in a haunter house.

Wonyong and Yeonsil are in love with each other. The gangster Gyeong-seon also has a crush on Yeon-sil, but one day, a fight breaks out between Won-yong and Gyeong-seon. When Won-yong is in danger, Yeon-sil blocks his body and gets hit by a knife. She walks down the snowy hill, weeping as she embraces the body of Yeon-sil.

In close-ups and extreme close-ups, we watch two small species of marine crustaceans, the slender long-legged stenorhynchus and the clumsy, short-legged hyas. To blend in, both cover themselves with found objects, such as algae and sponges. We watch them move, eat, greet each other, and fight. They have small mandibles and large claws. Near them are spirograph worms, 6 inches long, with a plume of branchiae that fan out like exploding fireworks. We see vibrating cilia, 0.001 mm long, on the branchiae, sending food toward the mouth at the plume's center. Chopin's music and an off-screen narrator suggest we're watching a ballet.

The news of the death of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin shocked the whole world. The working people of England and France, Spain and China, Africa and America in the great sorrows bowed their heads. January 27, 1924 at four o'clock in the afternoon, when in Moscow, on Red Square, the Soviet people buried Lenin, in everything work stopped for five minutes. George and Gracie enter an elegant drawing room, looking everywhere for something. Turns out, they're looking for the audience, and when George spots the camera, they start in on their patter. Gracie wants to convince George that she's smart, not dizzy - it's an uphill struggle of which she's blissfully unaware. Midway through, they break into song: "Do You Believe Me?" It includes a little bit of hoofing as the chatting continues. They end on a story Gracie whispers into George's ear.
