Gielgud was a recent graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art when his agent sent him to audition for the Regent Theatre, saying: “Here is an opportunity to become a London Star in a night.” Stardom would have to wait, with critic Ivor Brown castigating the young lover as a “niminy-piminy” who was “scant of virility”, with “the most meaningless legs imaginable”.

A medic falls in love with a young blind woman, whose father is a writer who doesn't want to cure her so that she doesn't see the perversities of the world. In the end, the medic is the son of the writer.

In the 1920s the Metropolitan Museum of Art began to explore filmmaking as part of its educational program, and in 1924 it released two films about Arms and Armor. In preparation for this new undertaking, Bashford Dean, the head of the Arms and Armor department, sought the advice of Hollywood professionals D. W. Griffith and John Barrymore. "A Visit..." was especially popular and includes memorable scenes: a Gothic armor steps out of its vitrine to answer visitors' questions about the collection, a seesaw with a small child on one end and a medieval mail shirt on the other demonstrates the relatively modest weight of armor, and a fully armored knight on horseback gallops through Central Park, with Belvedere Castle (the park's weather station) rising picturesquely in the background. When actor Douglas Fairbanks Sr. viewed the film at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, he pronounced it "bully."

Two transported convicts, George Worrall and Frederick Fisher, are released and take up farms at Campbelltown. They are both successful and become friends. Worrall persuades Fisher to go on a trip to England and says he will manage Fisher's farm.

The real London locations which formed the settings for various Dickens novels are shown, sometimes with characters from the books such as Little Nell and Grandad, Fagin, the Artful Dodger and the author himself superimposed.
