Cinematic Era: 1923 Vintage

No fewer than five once or future prime ministers on show at the momentous 1923 election.

Spanish dancer Conchita Piquer performs in a short film produced in the DeForest Phonofilm sound-on-film process.

Considered as the first Portuguese animated film, it shows António Maria da Silva, at the time the President of the Ministery of the 1st Republic of Portugal, who is returning home after another day's work. Of this silent movie, a digital reconstitution was made in 2006, from the original drawings, accompanied by an improvised piano score by maestro António Victorino d'Almeida.

Hoping finally to get some sleep, Farmer Al Falfa is awakened by a mouse marching band, a harmonica-playing cat, a dog-and-pig barbershop quartet and a cow charging through his walls. Like most of Al's slapstick adventures, this ends with an uproarious chase down the road.

A magical lamp and the genie contained within prompt a madcap chase, falls from great heights and a fight atop a speeding train.

Felix spots a fisherman on his way to his fishing spot, and figures he can follow the guy and grab a quick lunch by stealing his catch. Although he successfully nabs a few fish, the angler catches on and finally captures Felix. To get his revenge, he sends Felix through the telephone wires ("broadcasted") to Egypt, and Felix finds out that the Egyptians don't want him there, either.

Monty is chronically late. He comes to work late and loses his job, and then manages to miss his own wedding...

Gösta is a trainee for the brutal Algren. He runs away and get to know a friendly drifter.

Two African-American country boys with dancing talent are discovered by a theater magnate, who persuades them to leave the farm and try their luck on the stage. Initially seized by stage fright, the boys eventually become great successes. Back home, however, their parents, who are happy for their sons' good fortune, cannot help but feel neglected by them. At Christmas, the parents try to be merry, but miss their absent sons very much. Just then, the boys return home, full of good cheer for the holiday. The elder son, who has fallen in love with the theater manager's daughter, introduces his parents to his new bride and everyone is joyful.

Rarely seen comedy.

The setting is a shoe store and the action is pretty frenetic. You get to see Paul lose the store's money, catch a shoe thief, knock down a bunch of shelves and more.

What basically takes place is that 88 different cities had one woman selected to go to New York City where they'd compete in a beauty contest. The winner would be selected by Valentino and that winner would be very happy.

Felix thinks better of his plan to kill a rival.

It is the story of two friends, one a Muslim, Sheik Metwalli, and the other a Coptic Christian, Barsoum, both unemployed, suffering from hunger, and competing for a job in a bank. When the bank’s director mistakes them for wealthy businessmen, he takes them to his home for a lavish lunch. But upon learning their actual status, he chases them out of the house. At the film’s conclusion, as the two friends rest on the sidewalk absorbing their long-overdue meal, they are arrested by a policeman.

In 1914, a novelist is declared unfit for service but he regards it his duty to plow the land that others defend. The farmer that he helps leaves for the front after entrusting his fiancée and his estate to his care. The young woman loves the writer but does not yield to his desire. When the young peasant comes back, he is disabled but he finds his sweetheart untarnished and his land flourishing. His mission accomplished, the novelist can go back to town.
