Cinematic Era: 1915 Vintage

After accidentally injuring a friend in a wrestling match and swearing off violence of any kind, Dr. Hart becomes the physician at Big Creek Mines. While most of the miners respect him one bully taunts both he and the young schoolteacher he has taken a fancy to. Mindful of his eschewing violence he ignores him but when diphtheria breaks out in camp, the physician proves himself a hero and his greater strength stands by him in many ways. The first to fall ill is the bully's little child and the man becomes frantic at the thought of losing her. Thinking the doctor will allow his daughter to die to get even with him he tries to prevent the use of a serum needle, but the doctor uses his great strength to quickly overpower and bind the father saving the child with the shot.

An unknown Menichelli, a young and lively beauty, is desired by two stars of the Italian scene: Ruggero Ruggeri and Amleto Novelli. This breezy story based on an comedy unreleased in Italy at that time is built around Ruggeri, who plays the role of a playboy father who wants to turn into the family delights rejoining his son until then neglected. Novelli, a little uncomfortable in a role that would have required ten years less, is the good-hearted rustic son. Deciding the young man must be a millionaire in disguise, Pa Tubbs immediately makes amends by introducing his daughter to Bobby, who is rather bewildered, but tells them, "My father is Major-Gen. Tucker." This augments the young man's prestige, and he is invited to spend a week at the Tubbs' home.

Juan Capella, the son of a poor Spanish tavern keeper, and his wife, learning of the discovery of gold on the American River near Sacramento, runs away from his parents and sweetheart to make his fortune. The tavern keeper is in debt and places a mortgage on the tavern in order to prevent it being seized to pay another debt.

Helen is captured by two yeggmen who throw her into a refrigerator car; finding a meat hook, she chops her way into the ice chamber and reaches the top of the train in time to avert a collision of two trains.

They reach Tarrytown and peer into the lighted windows of the home of siblings Horace and Anne Shellington. Anne brings the two young vagrants into the house and ultimately adopts them. But Cronk, aided by Everett, wages a long, evil campaign to regain possession of the children.

The story concerns cowboy Tom Warner, who raises sheep on a cattle ranch owned by a man named Dixon, the father of his girlfriend Jean. Jean, meanwhile, is being menaced by a Mexican outlaw who wants to have his way with her. When Jean's father decides he no longer wants Tom to raise sheep on his ranch they quarrel, and Dixon later sends a gang of thuggish ranch hands to persuade Tom to see things his way.

Reporter Muriel Manning succeeds in rounding up Mrs. Madison who murdered gambler Howard Trimble. But after listening to her story of Trimble’s degradation and threatened blackmail of her which drove her to an attempt at suicide during which she shoots him in error Muriel decides never to reveal her identity in print.

Mr. Grouch has a decided antipathy for young men who call on his daughter. He shows it by ejecting all visitors. But the daughter is so popular that he finds the labor too great for a small man and determines to hire a big Swedish maid to do the heavy work of removing callers.

When Donald Wellington is ordered from the house by his sweetheart's father, they decide to elope. He calls for her next day in his speedster, but before they can make their escape the father is seen coming down the street. The elopement is then abandoned. Donald sees him fishing some time later and has a plan to bring him around.

Two young people marry in a Continental village and receive the congratulations of all save the rejected suitor. He bides his time while the couple live happily and are blessed twice with children. War is declared after the husband has suffered an injury for life and the rejected suitor enlists.

As heiress to a large fortune, Marguerite is able to satisfy her love for beautiful clothes and a taste for adventure, while confronted by a multitude of schemers and gangsters bent on reducing her to poverty.

The girl gets a beautiful bouquet of flowers from her fiancé, who wants her to enjoy the fragrance because these flowers will be in their new home when they are married. The girl puts them in a vase and uses them for a table decoration. There is to be a party at her home that day and they are a very welcome ornament. Sweedie, the maid, also loves flowers.

Count Dörner and his son-in-law Baron Max are hunting in the forest when they come upon Zambo and Satanita, who are Roma travellers. Dörner and Max are so captivated by the eccentric Satanita that they decide to take her to their estate. It quickly becomes clear that Satanita prefers the young baron to the old count, although the latter still makes a spirited attempt to force some affection from her. Her lover, Mario, had actually shot the man in self-defense, but the dying victim blamed Valeria. Mario, initially driven insane by the event, recovers and explains what happened. The priest intervenes with the King, Valeria is freed, and Mario is pardoned. The film ends with the priest marrying Valeria and Mario.

Urged on by his wife and daughter and against his better judgment, Texas cattle-baron Maverick Brander, finds himself in Washington D. C. as an elected congressman. However, when the Brander family arrives in Washington, they are met at every junction by snobbery and ridicule. Then an investigative committee arrives from Texas to check up on how Maverick is representing their interests.

This film was a true peculiarity, a filmed version of the great Feodor Chaliapin in one of his most famous roles; the fact that it was a silent film, with title cards, meant that audiences could only appreciate his acting. Another curiosity is that the film also included a minor role enacted by Richard Boleslavsky, who in 1932 directed “Rasputin and the Empress.”(9)

While working his way through college, Paul Potter acquires a flock of wealthy friends who encourage him to give up his hometown fiancée, Sylvia Castle, for Muriel Evers, a flirtatious married woman. After Sylvia releases Paul, and Muriel's husband divorces her for infidelity, Paul and Muriel marry. Meanwhile, when Sylvia's father dies after being ruined in the stock market, she goes from one job to another in the city until she tries acting in a stock company. There she befriends Henry Leamington, an alcoholic leading man, who, as he tutors her, falls in love and stops drinking because of her. When Paul discovers Muriel's unfaithfulness, he renews his acquaintance with Sylvia, who still loves him.

The wife and mother, in love with her local instructor, places her husband's revolver and a note to "get rid of him" in her lover's coat pocket. The professor telephones to the husband to meet him and is about to shoot when the husband, in a small table mirror, sees the action and wheels on the music teacher. In the struggle, the professor is killed, but before dying he gives the husband his wife's note. The husband is arrested for the murder, but for the sake of their little daughter, hides the note in a secret drawer of his desk and keeps silent about his wife's connection with the slaying. Fifteen years later he is pardoned, but his wife orders him from the old home. He gets the note and when he shows it to the wife, she craves his forgiveness.

Two road agents hold up the stagecoach and rob the passengers. In making their getaway, one of the road agents is shot by the stage driver. They stop at a lonely cabin, where a miner's widow lives with her little daughter, and ask for aid.

A gentleman saves a woman's line of laundry from a goat that has eaten it up. Later, he has a pipe dream.

A story is told of a woman who, disinherited after a scandal, later needs expensive surgery. Her father, General Darrington, initially refuses her plea for money, so she sends her daughter, Beryl, to him. The General dies from a falling andiron, Beryl is arrested, and a will favors a lawyer named Lennox. Beryl's brother, Bertie, arrives and provides exculpatory testimony supported by Lennox, who appears with a lightning-imprinted photograph. The siblings eventually discover love between Beryl and Lennox.

Gussle Rivals Jonah is a silent comedy

Owner of a fashionable gambling den John De Forrest seeks out wealthy people and lures them to his gambling den with the help of Lil, a beautiful but heartless blonde once there they trick the moneyed suckers into losing their fortunes. When the joint is raided and a policeman accidently killed the pair take it on the lam and head towards very different destinies.

This picture deals with the fates of Gaston Beauvais, an aristocratic young banker of Paris, and Pauline de Chauvilles, his fiancée. Beauvais discovers that Sylvion, his best friend, has long carried on a clandestine love affair with Pauline. An artist acquaintance urges Gaston to comfort himself with absinthe. Gaston in his despair yields. From that moment the wreck of his career begins. Maddened by absinthe, he denounces Pauline at the marriage-altar on his wedding day, as Sylvion's cast-off mistress. Still driven by absinthe, he murders Sylvion and ultimately his brutalities drives Pauline, now a pitiful outcast of the streets, for she fled her home in shame after Gaston cast her off, to end her pathetic existence in the dark waters of the Seine.
